I need a gaming headset

Hey, I'm looking for a decent gaming headset. I'd like to find a wireless pair with a removable microphone. I've looked at a pair with a built-in omnidirectional microphone, but I am unsure how well it would perform.

I'm also looking for a gaming mouse; I was looking at the Razer Deathadder, but I'm still not sure. I like the rubberized grip, but I'd prefer a wireless mouse. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

 

I don't know too much about wireless headsets with removable microphone(do they even make that?), but for a wireless gaming mouse check out the Logitech G7.

 

Ive always liked razer mice. Havent tried the deathadder but as of now i have the Diamondback which i really like. Id say if you have the cash for it and like the design of the mouse go for it. Also a wired mouse is much more prefered for gaming than wireless

As for a headset something like that would seem expensive. I have THIS and i love it its also really comfortable

 

I've found that it's easier to buy headphones without having to worry about it having a microphone. Usually the higher quality cans won't be a headset (with a mic), but just headphones (without a mic). If you just buy headphones, you can easily get a mic such as the Zalman Mic (which is very cheap by the way) which actually attatches to your headphone wire, so it basically makes it a headset. Keep that in mind.

Also, as for wireless capabilities... if you plan on gaming a lot, I wouldn't go wireless. Replacing batteries will be a big hassle, and some times there can be response lag, which you definitely don't want in a game.

 

I've been in competitive FPS gaming for years now, and from my experiences, here's my advice.

1. Don't buy headsets specifically made for gaming, no matter how expensive they are (yes, this will pretty much eliminate the possibility of getting one with a microphone. But as Rhyick pointed out, an attachable mic is VERY easily obtained, and cheaply at that.) Generally speaking, they suck, priced (way too high) strictly for the name and reputation, which is generally garnered from gaming "review" websites that are probably paid off. Examples: Steelsound 5H, Siberia's, etc.

2. Headphones that musicians use are the best bet. If it's your profession, you probably know what you're talking about. I used to own both Siberia's and Steelsounds (supposedly the two "best" gaming headsets for location identification, or being able to tell where people are in FPS's). Both broke after a few months (no hard abuse other than the occasional LAN). I have since switched to the Audio-Technica ATH-A500's, and the location ident. is THREE TIMES better than anything I was getting before. Not to mention they are obviously more durable, music sounds much better, and they are very excellent at outside noise cancellation. I might add that the A500's are the lowest in the series...they go all the way up to the A900's I believe.

Evannn explained exactly what I meant in much greater detail. Sennheiser also makes some great headphones for use in games. You should go to a place such as Head-Fi (audiophile forums) and do some asking and research on what headphones are good. Let me warn you beforehand, though, it's pretty easy to get hooked on those forums, so watch out!

Personally for me, I use Sennheiser HD485's with a Zalman attatchable mic. A link to the headphones is HERE and the mic is HERE from Newegg, though sometimes you may be able to get a better deal somewhere else. These headphones are absolutely the most comfortable ones I've ever had. So much so that I can truthfully say that sometimes I forget I'm even wearing them. They're great for gaming too, and I can pinpoint where any little minute sound is. I hear good things about the Sennheiser HD555 and HD580, too. Might want to check those out.

 

I use a Sennheiser PC150 headset for gaming; it is around $40 or less and the sound quality is great. I'm no audiophile though, so . . . The mic is clear. The downside to these headphones is that they are not durable and the cord can break easily if you are not careful (mine hasn't, but I've heard too many stories).

I think going to the route of getting the higher-quality cans + attachable mic is a much better solution if you have the money though. Might I suggest the Sennheiser HD280s:

I hear the HD280s are very nice. They're more portable, too, since they can fold up, which is a plus.

 

Well today I received the HD280s. The clarity is superb and I love the vocals, however they lack bass - I was reading the Head-Fi.org forums a lot and they are saying the same thing over there. So, I'm not that satisfied with these cans so far. I've been burning them in since this morning so we'll see if these get any better in a few days . . .
