Contemplation... which one to get... I'm been searching all over for reviews on the plantronics gamecom377. Couldn't really find any solid takes on it other than the same situation, contemplation on whether to buy it or not.

Anyone who had the gamecom377, can you express any problems or just thoughts about it? Here's the thing, I really want to buy it. However, these reviews I'm reading, especially on newegg, is really putting me down into not wanting to get it. Mainly because of the headband cracking. Seems like it's a pretty small fitting and not that flexible of a headset. I don't have an enormous head, I guess  so I don't think the overall size should be a problem.

Another option is the Fatality, newegg is running a deal on it. Yet.... I just don't like the shape of the ear muffs. I'm looking more for like a circular or a square'ish shape. Such as the Razer Orca but that doesn't have a mic. I've always been a Logitech fan. Got Logi z2300 speakers and a g700, but the g35 is just out of my price range. Steelseries, again price.

any ideas? No earbuds. Already have a pair of Altec Lansing buds which I like. Just want to get a headset with a mic. Also looking for a headset like the fatality and 377 that has a removable/hidden mic. Not a giant thing sticking out the whole time.

The Plantronics GameCom 377 is a fantastic headset. For the sub-$50 price range I cannot recommend it enough, and it even gives others a run for their money sub-$100.

For starters, I have a pretty large head and lots of hair, and it fit me just fine. The headband is adjustable. It does grip your head a little, but just enough to keep it from sliding off on its own; if you shake your head a little harder you can still throw it off if you want.

Audio quality on the 377 is great. It's an overall very balanced sound, and you'll have a much easier time discerning little audio details in your games, from the direction of footsteps, to ambient sounds you never even noticed before. Music also sounds pretty good on these; they were my general purpose headphone for the better part of a year. Mic quality is good too; at least, nobody in Mumble has ever complained. The mic boom tucking into the headband is a nice feature.

You mentioned the Razer Orca and its lack of a mic...check out the Carcharias; it's basically an Orca with a microphone, and black instead of green. I won one two years ago in Razer's Black Friday giveaway, and it's great. It's extremely lightweight and comfortable, and adjustable. Sound is also very good on these. It comes with cloth earpads, but you can replace them with faux-leather ones from Razer if you like. I did, and it's worth the investment.

nice nice, thanks for the review; yeah it seems like a pretty solid headset. The carcharias is pretty sweet, not sure if it's $70 sweet-worth; I bet it is though :)

I was originally aiming for the Fatality pro-series because the ear muffs adjusts and contours how it sits on the head. From the reviews I guess I missed newegg's sale when it was for $40

I think I'm pretty much sold for the gamecon, thanks man :D

My pleasure. I'm sure you'll enjoy them :)

As for the Carcharias...I didn't pay a cent for mine, so I definitely got my money's worth :p But I think even if I did pay full price, I'd be happy for how much use I'm getting out of them.

I'm a big fan of wireless. I have some decent Bluetooth headphones I use for gaming that are great. I'd take them any day over wired. But if you're looking for something gaming-centric, the G930 looks like a good bet.

ahhh understandable, thanks for the input :D

I think I might be changing directions now

Started looking more into mic-less headsets like Sennheiser 4 and 500 series. The thing that's turning me down from like the 428 (which I was JUST about to buy), the cable is 9ft long. Wth am I suppose to do with a nine foot cable. Definitely I am not going to dump that much money on a headset, end up cutting the cable to make it shorter. Strange Sennheiser..

The hd280pro seems like to be the best bang for the buck but the cable is coiled. Wth?! A 9ft cable and a coiled cable. Come on.

The last stand is the 438 which has two pairs of cables, 4ft and 10ft which is very nice. But what is with the chrome hubcap looking cover on the earmuff. Man!...

Nothing can ever be done right. Now I'm back to the Razer Orca which I originally looked into before the gamecom and everything. Yet, $45 for a "premium gaming grade" headset and not like a studio grade very well known for audio like Sennheiser; I question the sound quality comparing the two.. Although the reviews for the Orca seem to be all 5 star - 4/4, etc etc... For nearly the same price, there has to be some sort of viable difference. Other than just reputable company names.

-sigh- What to do now... Although I still do have the gamecom 377 in my mind and the head brace known for cracking... I'm starting to learn towards more of a higher quality headset and end up attaching a Zalmans clip on mic which I came across upon researching the Sennheiser headsets.

    Zalman Mic

What do you think to who ever reads this?

[don't get me wrong about Sennheisers cable. Long length and coiled I understand for different purposes. Just not my preference.]

For me, it's just another thing to find flat when I need to use it - not a fan of wireless headsets unless they come out with an inductive charging desk! :D

I'm a fan of the G35's, the wired version of the 930. Definitely adequate sound quality for almost any kind of use, good (atmospheric, not accurate) 7.1, genuine degree of isolation to immerse you, convenient in use and has stood up to not-very-respected use just fine. I think if they're just outside of your range, they're worth stretching to IMO.

Do you have a microphone integrated into your laptop? If it has a webcam it almost certainly has an integrated microphone. That's what I always end up using on my Envy, and it's more than adequate for gaming. I get better performance from it than most of the guys I play with. Why worry about a headset when you can get nice headphones? I still like wireless in general, but the nicest thing about my Samsung bluetooth headset is that if the battery runs out, I can connect a 3.5mm cable to it and it functions like wired headphones.

yeah it's got a built in mic, pretty good quality. Just figured it would be nice/convenient to have a headset with a mic :p

Yeah, I might be excluding out the whole headset gig now and look into more of a good pair of headphones. Looking around on Head-Fi.org, this audiophile forum with some pretty hardcore audiophiles (more than me, and I thought I was pretty nitpicky about sound quality), seems like there's a lot of choices out there to pick from.

Only problem is a lot of these are completely out of my price range. Keeping a pretty tight budget because I'm upgrading my phone to the Evo3D when it gets released this summer for sprint..

But some of the recommendations I'm seeing are like the:
    AKG K141, Sennheisers, ATH AD500 or 700, Beyerdynamic DTX 910 or DT440

What kind of headset do you have Pita?

Me? I've got a $50 Samsung SBH600. I'm not even sure if they sell those any more. It's decent enough quality, I mostly got it because it works via Bluetooth, so I don't have to transfer a dongle between my desktop, phone and laptop, and it folds flat for nice travel in my backpack. It's a little tight around my head though, and the ear muffs are a tad small, so it's not the most comfortable thing around. It does have decent sound though.

Well I'd like to recommend the Corsair HS1A headsets. These are REALLY REALLY comfortable, have great sound and great mic. And they look awesome! And retractable too! The bass on it is phenomenal...

And I couldn't be any happier...
