Hello.
I'm thinking of getting a SD Flash card to plug into the built-in 5-in-1 card reader in my laptop, and use the card with Vista ReadyBoost. The cards i'm looking at, have a proclaimed read speed of 20 - 22 MB/sec, and a effective read speed of 5 - 6 MB/sec, so it should work pretty well with ReadyBoost. Found the info here:
http://www.techcrater.com/2007/04/05/readyboost-flash-memory-speed-list/
But I've heard that the used card reader can have an impact on performance.
Does it just bottleneck it, or will it have an impact no matter what?
How well will a built-in HP 5-in-1 card reader perform do you think?

No personal experience here, but logically it should only bottleneck.

Ok, thx. And do you think it could do 5 - 6 MB/sec, or would it simply slow the SD card down? Guess I'll just hae to try it.

No one here who has a HP laptop and a SD card?
-
I have an HP 8510w and an SanDisk Extreme III SD card. The system reports that the media is too slow if I put it into the built in SD reader. However it works just fine if I plug the card in through a USB SD card reader. Very disappointing, as part of the appeal of using the built-in reader is that the card fits flush with the laptop...

an internal reader is slower than usb 2.0?
-
So it seems. We have another HP laptop at work (8430) and it doesn't have any problems using the card (or any others for that matter). The new 8510 on the other hand won't accept ANY card on the internal reader for readyboost. (They all do work via usb and an SD reader though.) Not sure what the problem is, but it's bugging me...

Metamorphical Good computer user
what capacity is the card ajmd?
-
2gig. But I've tried 1 and 4 gig cards as well. (The 2 gig extreme III is the fastest though.)
