Anybody know of a good real 5.1 or 7.1 headset? I've heard about the roccat Kave, but apparently it isn't comfortable when you have it on your head for a long time. I'll be using it for movies and gaming. I have a good set of speakers for music and everything else. I'd like something with a reasonable price tag.

5.1 surround sound headphones generally are not that great unless there's a high end model that you want to shell out for. Your going to be getting 5 (probably 6) small drivers, and then there going to squeeze a sub in there also, all of which are not going to be of great quality. It all becomes very unpractical. TS give us a budget if you can so we can get a ballpark of where your at.

Okay, well I was thinking a budget between 100-150$. To compare I currently have the Fatil1ty gaming headset ( http://us.store.creative.com/Creative-Fatal1ty-Gaming-Headset/M/B002DS4HTM.htm). I wanted to know if there is something in my budget that would give me a better quality experience when watching movies and playing games.

Take a look at the Steelseries Siberia V2 USB. If your interested in just headphones, take a look at the Audio-Technica ATH M-50's. Much better then any headphones you'll get with a headset.

As already mentioned, most people here are more prone to tell you to get standard 2 speaker headphones that do not use any virtual 5.1/7.1 gimmickry.

In my personal experience with the G930 on of the higher rated 7.1 headsets I ran into not one, not two but numerous problems with compatibility with software and games in where the 7.1 did not get utilized properly resulting in loss of sound in a speaker, sound artifacts, or other very harsh problems.

Plus these virtual headsets are generally not so great at music so your later going to have to invest in a 2nd pair of real headphones if you plan to spend any decent amount of time listening to things other than games.

There's one "true surround sound" which is the Razer Tiamat but it's never in stock and costs like $170 ._. Reviews mentioned that the 7.1 works wonders but if using the stereo mode, sound quality is pretty much similar to any cheap headsets out there.

Baka owns a Logitech G35 which is pretty much a wired G930. As Viking above said, it's really problematic. In order to switch around between laptop and headset as main speakers, Baka has to either pause or relaunch the program/video just so it changes what it sees as the default sound output device ._. Plugging it in the middle of a game and it won't be detected properly at all
