I've been debating on this. They're both good mice, so I'm conflicted. The G5 is slightly cheaper right now ($35 after rebate on Newegg). Any thoughts or opinions?

They're pretty much the same mouse. The G5 is technically more accurate being a laser.

I have had problems with the USB connector on my G5. It's really spotty and it sometimes doesn't work at all.

I know plenty of people who haven't had this problem though.

currently own an mx518 and love it. g5 is basically the same (like mentioned above) except laser, and mx518 is cheaper

    MX510

MX518 has fewer usable buttons, and who really uses that in-game sensitivity switch. All of nobody.

I like the MX518 better, and actually even though its opitical I remember benchmarks show its more accurate than almost any mouse out there.

    Got:
    G5 it's way way outdated now ...
G9 is way better in many ways, when experiencing the new wheel on the mouse
can't or hard to go back to the old ones.
Using VX Nano on my notebook now.

Got few more from m$ too but ...

I use the in-game sensitivity switch. Haha. I don't have any experience with the G5, but I've used an MX518 for about 3 years now and it has been flawless.

I have the G5 and have found nothing wrong with it. Its really accurate and is comfortable to use for hours. However, the whole weight set thing is rather pointless.

Ok it does have applications for some games, but I personally prefer having 2 more key-bind-able buttons on the MX510, but that's no knock on the MX518, it's still a fantastic mouse.

I'll stop by microcenter someday and review each mice. I don't know if they'll let me test them out though. Has anyone been to microcenter before, and do they let you test them? They got everything when it comes to computers.

^^Not a claw-gripper personally. Anyway, I definitely use the sensitivity switch when using things like GIMP...or when sniping.

Go for the G9 if you can find it for sale. I personally would not pay 100 for a mouse. Anyway, the G9 has profile switching on the go, so it's useful if you play different games so you can switch between configurations. It also has a weight system like the G5. IMO, it's basically better than the G5 in all ways, except MAYBE the shape.

I assume at least some of you are using THIS to base your opinions off of. I just want to point out that the G5 in this test is the old model, and the new one has a much higher response rate. just a fyi.
