I'm preparing to order a laptop for my daughter to use in college. One of the accessories offered is an extra battery. Is this something I should consider? Thanks!

What laptop are you planning to buy for her(some laptops have very good battery life while others dont)?

Will she be taking this laptop to class or will it say in the dorm?

But anyways i would buy the extra battery after you let her try out the notebooks to see if her needs warrant extra battery life.

You should upgrade the primary battery first (ie a 6 or 9 cell one)

carrying an extra battery isn't exactly the best option for poor battery life. as someone has aleready said, upgrading the existing one is better. however when on long trips or in blackouts or something it would be nice to know you can get another couple of hours out of your laptop.

I agree that an extra battery isn't the best option. Getting the primary battery with a higher capacity is a priority. If a modular battery is an option consider it but it would take the place of the optical drive. An extra battery means more weight to lug around.

Batteries tend to lose capacity, in general, whether you use them or not.

Yea agree with people above. Carrying another heavy battery isn't a fun...you rather just have a higher cell battery.
