Im just wondering what the "life expectancy" of the Sennheiser HD 555 is?

Ive only dropped it a couple times on the floor ...but overall its in a good condition

Im hoping these set of cans will last me quite a while (2+ years) because i dont intend on buying high-end headphones all the time

I've done some searching but i only got mixed reviews.

I would like to hear from owners of these cans or past owners

BTW the sound still is good but im just wondering how long it'll last till it just stops working or cracks in half :p

    tHanks!

From sennheiser I'd say if you take good care of them they will easily last 15 years. Of course taking good care of them doesn't include dropping them, but they should be able to take a fair amount of that too.

I've thrown my headphones into heaps of clothing or carpet(tossed, not whipped or anything). I have complete faith in sennheiser's durability. I've had my 595s for....2 years now? more? the earpads aren't even bad yet. that's the only thing you have to worry about years down the line, earpad replacements. maybe. take decent care of your headphones and you will be all set.

i had my hd555 for half a year before i sold them. at that time they were still in great shape and i didnt not see any signs of deteriorating. I now have hd650's :]

what i dont like about headphones is that the cable is too long. sometimes the armrest of my chair catches the cable, and when i turn around, it pulls on the. then my expensive headphones drop 3ft onto my hardwood floor :[

^^^I believe with 555's the cable is detachable. I know the 595's the 580's the 600s and the 650's have this feature. You can either upgrade the cable, or find a cable that is shorter to fit your needs.

While i agree sometimes the longness is annoying, it is also handy when i am gaming in front of my tv that is a decent amount away from me.

You can always re-terminate your cable to a shorter length. Its very easy to do if you have a soldering iron and a new plug for them.
