Hey guys
I just bought a Studio XPS 13 and I'm basically looking for a good pair of speakers.
Due to space constraints, I cant have a subwoofer, and therefore must resort to 2.0 speakers (I have a really powerful desktop + good speakers so I dont need my laptop speakers to be amazing).
Here are my options:
1. USB 2.0 interface speakers; only good ones I can find are the Logitech V20's
2. USB Sound card + Auxilary out speakers; I've heard some good things about the logitech x-140's, but that's pretty much the only set of speakers i can find that arent $10 <______<
I dont need crazy amounts of bass, but I would like it to be present; and the logitech z5's are omnidirectional, which i dont want.
I saw the Logitech Audio Hub which has a subwoofer right in the middle, and I would consider it, but its near the bottom of my list since I'm looking mainly at seperate speakers rather than a huge bar.
But yeah, any recommendations? (only on speakers, not the usb sound card)

I use the creative N400 (x-fi) set it's usb powered and gives good (and if wanted quite loud too) sound imo.
I was actually surprised with the quality and volume.
Downside is no line in/out, but I'm very pleased with them here.

Hmmm interesting; the n400's dont look half bad
The M-Audio AV20's look pretty good too -

I have had the Logitech V20s, about..... I say 2 years now?
I mean they are not top notch, but by the price you should know that. Overall I really like them, They have a nice case for travel. The only con while having them, is that when you turn the volume way up. They weight so little that they move on their own, what I usually do is just put a piece of tape on them or just something on the way so they don't "dance" any more. I got them very cheap I don't remeber on what web site (ebay maybe?).
Oh yeah, I saw a logitech "hub" that was 2.1 and was semi-portable.

these. I found them pretty cheap, but not that portable. -
Hmm thanks for your opinions guys!
The AV30's did catch my attention, but they're abit too big for the space on my desk (i also keep my desktop on it and my workspace on it), which is why I swayed more towards the AV20's.
And as for the V20's, I'm still considering them.
But for the Audiohub although its 2.1 (which is relaly good for something i can actually place on my desk without a seperate subwoofer), as you've mentioend its not very small, which is why its on the lower end of my list.
I just stumbled upon the Logitech Z-10's and the Creative T20's; both have been very well recieved, which is making my decision even harder =/
Logitech V20, Logitech Z-10, M-Audio AV20, Creative T20
The list has now gotten bigger o___o which is not good as im very indecisive -
i'm using a pair of edifier speakers

If you don't have a lot of desktop space, you may still be able to consider a 2.1 with its own subwoofer, if you place the subwoofer under your desk instead of on it. My university desk was enormous, so I could easily fit my notebook, all its accessories, and a Logitech Z-2300 subwoofer and speakers on it with room to spare. Now that I'm at home on a desk that's half the size, I have the subwoofer on the ground under the desk. It doesn't really sound notably different.
-
Nono I considered that; problem is I have no room under my desk either; i already have a sub and a bunch of cables and some other stuff and i just have no room to put another sub if i want some leg room when i do work

Then the AudioHub looks like it might do you justice. It's a bit wider than your notebook, but from everything I've read, it is really good for the size and price. You say you want separate speakers, not a huge bar, but technically that's what the AudioHub is. The speakers are just packaged together in a pretty convenient way.

yeah, I know what you're trying to say; but I just dont have the space behind my laptop for that stuff; which is why I find sattelite speakers more practicla in my situation

I'm slightly confused on what you're asking for, but as far as 2.0 pseaker recommendations:
Creative T40 $140
Creative T20 $90
Creative Inspire T10 $50 -
Yeah the T40's looked nice, but abit over the budget as to what I wanna spend on simple laptop speakers;
How're the T10's vs the T20's though? Since I've read really relaly good reviews of the T20; they're beginning to sway me abit towards them.
Decent 2.0 Speakers
