Hello, I just purchased a Dell M1210 Notebook and was curious if/how I could connect it to my 40" Samsung LCD? The Notebook has an S-Video out and I belive a VGA out also (it hasn't come in the mail yet so I cant say for sure). My TV has HDMI and DVA imputs in addition to the S-Video and VGA. My question is what would be the best connector to buy that would have the best quality or will they all pretty much be the same? Also, are there hybrid wires available such as an S-Video to HDMI cable? I chose not to have a TV tuner in the Notebook when I built it online so Im not sure if that would impact connecting it to my TV or not. Sorry if the questions seem dumb, I dont know much about this type of thing so Im turning to you guys. :)

    Thanks in advance!

Well, I don't know about your specific information, but I can give you some general info before the experts chime in.

First of all, S-Video is not HD quality, so if you output via that, you're going to get low res (720x480).

For VGA, you could get a conversion box, but that will set you back a bit. From what I gathered, this seems to be your best (only?) solution.

A lot of LCD monitors have VGA in, so I'd verify that you don't before going this route.

As for the tuner card, that wouldn't have solved your problem. That would have allowed for you to watch TV on your computer, but not your computer on the TV.

The cheapest and easiest way is to buy one of these adapter cables, hook everything up, put your TV on the DVI input channel.

    http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/VGA-DVI.html

Then you simply press your external display Quickey Fn + .... to cycle through the video outputs. Keep pressing until the image appears on the TV.

You can use an S-Video cable, but the resolution will be far to low to get a decent image.
