I have owned 2 WinTV-HVR-955Q's and they are absolute (Insert what ever you want here). They work for a year or so, get really hot ( not enough to burn you, but close).

I believe all TV tuners generate some heat, but then after about 12 months they stop working (At least my experience with the WinTV-HVR-955Q).

I heard that there were some commercial grade or industrial grade TV Tuners/ DVR's that are USB based and can't seem to find any information on them.

I am looking for something that would work with both broadcast TV as well as CCTV security systems where I can use the Computer or NAS as a DVR with as much storage as I want.

I have yet to see a professional grade USB solution for this. There isn't even such for radio, in Radio you are looking at a Desktop with an AudioScience tuner card installed, which is very expensive (their cheapest sound cards are $400-$500 upwards and higher)
