I have not yet purchased my laptop for college but am thinking of going with the 14" ASUS U81 from Best Buy. Anyways, I will be needing a bookbag for the laptop and a couple text books/notebooks/all the good college student stuff. The biggest thing I am concerned with is weight distribution, I have been using a Jansport back pack and with even a couple text books, walking too far makes your shoulders cry. I have looked at the thread with links to manufacturers but I am not sure which ones would be great for carrying text books as well. I am wanting to spend under $100 so I would appreciate some suggestions which take that into play. Thanks!

Get a nice one from REI. It's a bit more money, but it will save your back when you gotta carry those ridiculous books they could of shrunk all onto a single DVD.

Thanks, I'll check into REI. Anything out there somewhat funky but still practical and comfortable? I'd like a bag with personality, that would be cool.

Funky? I'm not exactly trendy myself. I switch between a Chrome Messenger and a JCrew Messenger bag. Notice a pattern?

Chrome messenger bags are nice. ^_^

@zsierra...have a look at Crumpler, they are very expensive though, if you want designs that are different (with quality) it's going to be expensive. Timbuk2 have some special designs from time to time. Again, it will be expensive.

Oh I see. I need something more inexpensive.

I'm really not wanting to go with a messenger bag for two reasons, the weight distribution is not good for my back at all and it would be much easier for me to sit it down, walk off, and then have someone walk off with my laptop! A back pack would allow me to use both hands at once and not worry about the bag swinging around.

I just bought the north face surge for college. It is a little over $100 but not much and i really like it. I've always had good luck with north face so maybe take a look at other ones if the surge is too much.

I understand the weight thing. But the security part? I am not forcing you to get a messenger bag by any means but I have had various messenger bags over the years and have never had such problems with security.

Anyways the Surge suggested above is a very popular option, find a ebag.com coupon and wait for one for their sales. :D
