I'm looking for a 128mb thumbdrive (or flashdrive... whats the "official" name for these anyway?). I've seen them at Circuit City for $35 plus $10 m.i.r. Anyone know of any other good places to look.

Anyone have a brand they prefer, or should stay away from?

Thanks for helpin' a newb out! [ :D]

I bought the Lexar Jump Drive Sport 2.0 USB flash stick with 256MB from buy.com for a great deal. Here is the website: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10360518&loc=101&sp=1 .

It's $39.66 now with free shipping. I tested mine out and it worked great, no complaints. Very small and can double as a key chain. Flash drives aren't my expertise but if you have any questions about it I would be more than happy to assist. By the way I tried it on a windows box and it recognized it and auto mounted with no user input (very nice). I will be trying it in linux as soon as I get my notebook (tomorrow hopefully).

Looks like they have the 128MB for $29, but for $10 more you get double memory and free shipping (which would mean it really pays for itself).

Also check out BestBuy, I think I've noticed a 128mb for around $30. If you need to purchase other gear, take a look at the circulars in your local paper. A retailer here (forget who...while ago) was having a promotion where they were giving away 64mb drives with $75 purchases. You might be able to find something like that. If you go with a thumbdrive, go with a USB 2.0 version. The problem I have with my 1.1 device is that there is a lag when transferring information from a machine to the drive. If you pull the drive out too quickly, the information is not saved.

We post deals about these occasionally, so you might want to use search to see if there are any recent deals. I've seen teh 128's for as low as $10-15 after rebate.

Okay I just found the reciept of that flash drive. After rebates it was $27, so there have been better deals in the past and may be in the future. I thought $39 sounded pretty high. Oh well keep your eyes open I'm sure you'll find a deal.

This week Target has the Lexar Media 128MB JumpDrive Elite or Sport for $22ea (no mail-in-rebate). This is their lowest price of the season ($13 off the regular price).
