Budget Monitor??

Hello,

Please provide some recommendations for a external monitor that will be hooked up to a

Unit: 1920X1080 laptop with Nvidia Quadro M1000M (4GB)

Ports: Laptop has HDMI, mini-Display and Thunderport

Usage:
Mostly business, hence no need for a very high resolution
Used perhaps 8-10 hours/week
Smaller size less than 20" preferred due to space limitations

Get a Dell Ultrasharp, in whatever screen size you want. They are my go-to recommendation for monitors whenever someone needs a simple, straightforward monitor that performs excactly, without cutting any corners.

You specifically want at least 1920 x 1080 resolurion. When you look at monitor sizes below 24", you will sometimes find something like a 1600 x 900 monitor. Do not get those.

You also specifically want an IPS panel for viewing angles. Do not buy a cheap ****ty TN panel.

If you don't know what to buy, get a Dell Ultrasharp. It contains everything you need for a dependable office monitor, and doesn't have all of the flashy gamer-bling like RGB LED lights.

But that also means you don't want to go cheaper. You're already at the bare necessities for an office monitor, so anything that gets cut in the name of lower cost will directly impact your experience, such as poor construction, cheap plastic, non-adjustable stand, cheap TN (non-IPS) panel technology.

 

I don't think Dell makes an Ultrasharp smaller than 24 inches.

OP, are you truly that space limited to where you can't bump up the size to at least 24? Most any monitor smaller than that is not worth the plastic it's made from.

So no manufacturers like AOC etc that I see regularly on deals over as slickdeals? Dell Ultrasharp seemed to be around $200 and these others could be had for less than $100.

I need to find out from the user. Her complaint was that the desk was too small for her to have a large monitor along with the laptop and other stuff and hence she wanted a smaller monitor.

 

A 24 inch 1080p display is the bare minimum I would suggest for anyone who needs to get any real work done.

So the solution is - we'll be getting the user a larger desk for a 24" monitor. Now looking for something inexpensive, preferably around $100 since it will be used no more than 10 hours/WEEK.

I see on slickdeals - Sceptre, Acer, Asus, AOC, Philips etc. for around $100. Are these not good monitors?

Also read that some DELL have had issues 'going dark' and coming back on. Is this not a concern then with Dell monitors?

I've been picking up AOC monitors for friends and a lot of my smb customers for quite a few years now, as most of them have very tight budgets and the reaponse was great.

Pick 22-24 IPS model and it should be fine for office use.

I have Dell u2414h and it is actually smaller than previous 23" I had because it has tiny bezels compared to many others. Also 16:10 of same size would also be narrower but those are hard to find in general.
