    Hi all,

I'm going to be cycling across Canada in July and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for a solid case (and a good place to look for one) that would protect my laptop in the event of it getting bumped around and potentially falling a couple feet.

I've seen a few aluminum cases on ebay that might be promising... and some others through google. I'm primarily looking for good snug padding and a shell that's lightweight and as small as possible. It would be great if the case only fit the laptop, accessories I can store elsewhere.

My laptop is the ASUS a8js,14" widescreen
    9.6"x13.2"x1.5"

OOOOOO Be careful with it - no case will totally protect it from a fall of a couple of feet. I'd have to go soft case though - hard cases are so bulky and so heavy and sometimes aren't as good for your laptop. You'll get alot more protection out of a soft case or backpack.

Make sure you fly with your computer with YOU and NOT in the hold with baggage UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES - it will get damaged AND/OR nicked.

    Cool?

This reminds me of a case review a read a few months back.

Did a search just now and found it! http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3583

I'm not recommending that case specifically but the review was a bit funny to me as the reviewer really tested it thoroughly unlike other case reviews. I think only these suitcase type cases can possibly protect a laptop from a drop of a few feet...

Thanks for the responses guys... My main concern is that the laptop (hard disk mainly) will survive jiggling up and down on the back of my bike as I ride along potentially bad, potholed roads.

The Pelican 1080 looks almost exactly like what I want, however, my laptop appears to be 0.9" too long and 0.6" too wide :( I'll keep looking, they're bound to have something similar...

Also, I stumbled across this: http://www.kenkifer.com/bikepages/touring/laptop.htm

Maybe I should make my case out my clothing and semi-inflated inner tubes ;)
