In my bedroom, I have a 26" Acer monitor on top of my tv. I plan to use this for watching Netflix via my laptop.

I have an HDMI cable that I plug into the laptop and into the monitor. This works correctly. However, the builtin sound on the monitor is terrible.

Is there any CHEAP way of getting the audio to come out of my tv speakers? If not, how do I get the sound to work? On my Xbox 360, I used a cable that forced the audio to be output to the red/white RCA audio cables and this worked nicely. Can I do anything similar with my laptop?

Or is the only way to do this is to hookup external speakers to my laptop via the headphone jack and then (somehow) get the audio to play through those speakers instead of coming out of my monitor?

Any ideas or solutions to my dilemma would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you are on Windows 7, you can right click the speaker icon and click playback devices to select the headphone jack as audio output. Then you can get a 3.5mm to rca cable to hook up to your TV if desired.

he doesn't require any additional wiring to get sound to work. HDMI carries video and sound.

u'll have to change yur sound output/input settings for audio to get audio to play out of yur external source.

    - right click speaker icon in windows taskbar
    - select 'playback devices'
    - select 'HDMI' and hit 'set default'
    - 'apply'
    - enjoy

make sure u pay attention to yur laptop's volume settings before u crank up yur TV/receiver and blow yur speakers out. if u'r still not gettin sound, try to close and reopen whatever program u were using.

do u have a netflix enabled device such as a ps3, xbox360, wii, or a blu ray player? that'll be the best way to stream netflix cuz u will get a better quality picture than streaming from yur laptop. at least that's the case when i stream from my PS3 compared to my laptop.

The way I understand it is this guy has a LCD monitor on top of a CRT TV. They want to watch Netflix on the LCD screen, but also have the sound come through out of the CRT TV. :/

Thanks, I think this might be the best bet.
