I have a 160GB WD passport. WD makes reliable drives, this one is no different. Although i wish the case was stronger and the usb port was tighter.

IMO the older Seagate portables were the best. They were metallic and VERY sturdy. Wish I didnt sell mine. Right now I have a Hitachi 160GB.

Western Digital's My Book is a good external hard and you can get one at a good price with a lot of hard drive space on them.

    500GB for $140

Pretty tough to beat the Apricorn portable HDDs... small, tough, fast... powered by the USB bus itself. Mine has traveled constantly for the past 4 years... over 400k air miles and counting. Gets used daily. One of the best tech purchases I've ever made.

i would just go for seagate because of the warranty. hard drives don't break that often on their own, so you want good protection. and a 5 year warranty is pretty good.

The Dell Latitude E series also has eSATA/USB. It is designed to fit both connectors (not simultaneously though). I have an expresscard eSATA for my laptop. The Vantec enclosure is pretty good. A lot cheaper than prebuilt ones and faster too! (3.5" drive vs. 2.5" drive though, I use my Vantec 3.5" storage at home and 8GB memory key on the go).
