I'm looking for the top of the line. Price is not an issue.
I've heard things about the Razer Megalodon, Logitech G35 and Sennheiser PC350. Has anyone tested these out? I need opinions on these or any other headsets you would recommend.
Excellent sound quality is a must obviously, along with comfort and a high quality mic with little interference.

-
Anyways, they look like a hell of a pair of headphone -
Yeah, the brit's got some high quality headsets. An alternative is the Medusa NX. I have also read good things about the Razer Megalodon, but they lack noise canceling.

You want a good quality gaming headset?
Check out Steel Series. Once i decide to get a gaming headset, thats exactly what im going for. Great reviews, and the price it is awesome. -
The Plantronics GameCom series is excellent. There's the $50 377 (stereo) and the $100 777 (7.1).
-
will let u know about the senn pc350.ordered 1 two days ago.
-
I'll throw in the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 as it's what I know right now in terms of upper-end headsets. I did a review a while ago which has gone the way of my title. Google "notebookreview MMX 300 review" and perhaps it will appear.
I've backordered both the G35 and the PC350 with a view to comparing it against decent head*phones* to see how they stack up, as well as the MMX. -
What I'm trying to figure out is if I should get a headset that has a USB plug and has the software already installed in the headphones or the default jack plug headset.
I have a Gateway P-7805u FX laptop and I believe the sound card in it isn't that great so I'm not sure I would benefit from the jack plug headsets with 5.1 surround sound.
What does everyone else think? -

ad700 + zalman mic
ad700's are considered to be one of the best gaming headphones (super clear + amazing soundstage) -
-
However, you may not be aware of this if you don't have a headset to compare with (kinda obvious). The AD700 is also open, and the PC350 is closed. Two very different experiences as a result. I also think many people mistake the width of soundstage (typical for open phones) as effective for gaming: It's more the representation of sounds within whatever soundstage you have which is more important in gaming IMO. -
Alright then the question I should be asking is...
What are the best quality USB headsets available on the market? -
-
My suggestion...
Grab Creative's X-FI Surround 5.1 USB External Soundcard
http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=209&subcategory=669&product=17751&listby=
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...=x-fi&lp=3&type=product&cp=1&id=1216423921440
Sounds way better than onboard sound on a laptop and local Best Buy's current have it marked down to $49.99 actually.
Then grab Razer's Barracuda HP-1 5.1 Headphones
http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-audio/razer-barracuda-hp1/
http://www.provantage.com/razer-rz04-00130100-r2m1~7RAZA00C.htm
Unlike most 5.1 headphones, the usb is only meant to power the headphones. It actually uses separate 5.1 auxiliary plugs like a full fledge pc 5.1 sound system.
I have these two both paired to my laptop and I can never go back to onboard sound, this duo sounds just too good and I can use EAX and gain back my Direct Sound (via Alchemy) I lost due to Vista. Tons of pluses but be sure to use the beta drivers instead of the stable ones for the x-fi. -

Have your mic break on your $400 game headset and you are sol.
A700 are closed, but the AD700 does have a better soundstage, puts you in the game more rather than the sound in your head. Just need a separate sub for bass and its the perfect setup. -
why people thinks that gaming headphone is really special? with some hocus pocus gizmo on it?
i...still aint convinced from the ads -
The mic on a quality gaming headset is also about as likely to break as the '3D Wing support' or the earcup rotation mount during regular use- in fact, given my experience of the A900 ~> W5000, I'd say much less likely in your case as the A-T's are more delicate than many studio headphones in any case. Seems like a bunch of assumptions to me.
edit: Oh yes, I ought to point out I do a lot of Skype talking as well, so the mic pickup is something I consider pretty crucial in a headset. -
Going to necro this thread instead of making a new one... As far as using 3.5 connectors on a laptop, can anyone suggest a good USB soundcard? Or going the opposite direction, any recommendations for a high quality USB headset with built in sound card? Thanks.

everyone forgets about Astro A40's huh

SteelSeires Siberia V2 FTW.... I have the roccat kave, and Sharkoon X-tactic and it beats both hands down... truely the BEST headset I have ever seen.

^^^I Also recommended this as well.
When im ready to pick up a headset that will be my first choice. -
I picked up a pair of Sennheiser350's for $140 off Amazon.
I love the closed aspect of the headset, it virtually cancels out all outside noise. The mic is excellent and from what I can tell the sound quality is very good.
As for the A40's, I've heard a lot of complaints regarding their build quality. Seems they like to fall apart rather quickly. -
I've been going on a headset buying binge lately and have the Sennheiser PC350, Logitech G35 and the Beyerdynamic MMX 300.
The PC350's are well made. Rather finger-print magnetty with the glossy back though. The Logitech G35 isolates better, which was a surprise - and mic pick-up quality of the G35 is on a par with the PC350.
The 350 has a diffuse element to the sound where neither highs nor lows are excessively boosted which is common to the high-end Sennheisers, and is up there with a decent studio closed headphone in terms of sound quality - but while comfortable, it doesn't actually offer a whole wodge of isolation. I was quite surprised at how close the G35 got to the PC350 in terms of sonic detail though - but the right-hand-side faint whining, if it's a common factor with the G35, is kind of a deal-killer. Logitech have yet to get back to me for a replacement.
However if you want the best, the MMX 300 continues to be the benchmark for me. The mic pick-up is considerably superior to the above two and the character of the sound is pretty much unmatched for gaming use, although it's debatable whether the MMX 300 offers commensurate increase in sound quality to the PC350.
I also have the MMX 2, an entry headset from Beyerdynamic which is an excellent choice if you're not looking to spend over $100. One caveat with the MMX 2 which is that although it's billed as closed it offers zero isolation. Apart from that it's one of the best headsets in terms of mic and sound quality you can get for the money that I've come across, although it's fair to say that it looks like if you put a regular pair of headphones into the oven. -
i think that the gamecom 777 @ 60bucks on amazon is a gr8 deal, it has good reviews and a dolby removable digital surround sound converter that can be used with any headest. -
1- the roccat cave
2- alienware atlex
but my question is i will get it for my m17x laptop , and as i know that the roccat cave have 4 3.5 jakes and one usb amd my laptop is support the 5.1 surround sound but its 3 jaces one for mic and one for the deadset and one for line out. it will work as 5.1 surround sound or not? and if not what i should get to make it work???? -
Im gonna say the Beyer DT 770 pro 80 ohm great bass for explosions. They can be around $180. Look over at headfi webpage for all the great reviews and mods for these cans.
-
That's not a headset.
-
And if someone mentions the Zalman mic, that's still not a headset.
-
The ultimate gaming headset? (Beyerdynamic DT 770 microphone mod)
My 10 minute dt770 mic mod -
That's great if your time is of little value. Not for me - which is why the MMX 300 is my headset of choice. Sure, it's essentially a DT 770 Pro with a fairly run of the mill USB stage and a (excellent, and noticeably better than the one you'd find on e.g. a PC350) mic stuck onto it, but it's done without any kludges.
-
I'm looking for the top of the line. Price is not an issue.
umm...

+ the zalman mic.
Yes, I am being a tard... -

dont bother with the alienware, they look like a renamed steelseries 5h v2. even if they are diff, i highly doubt they can exceed what other companies have out today. go with a pair of plantronics, logitechs, razers. if u have lots of monies, get teh pc350 or MMX 300.
-
If your priorities lay primarily in getting good sound out, then the Zalman is definitely one of the stopgap options available to use once in a while. But if you're actually after a head set, I think it's a liability to recommend the ZM-MIC1. -
-
i liked the siberias.... might go for one of those myself....
-
roccat kave
http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gaming-Sound/ROCCAT-Kave/
alienware tactx

if i could, i'd choose the roccat.. but i can't....:'(

location: Colombia.
every credit card i put into any website but amazon gets rejected.
if they have it on amazon its a go for me.... but they don't, i think.... -
just so u guys know, the alienware tactX is an exact copy of the steelseries, just a rebranding...
for 75 bucks its a not really a ripoff actually, same price as the 5h v2. alienware didnt actually go ape on pricing.
but then teh matter goes, would u recomend a 5h v2? i didnt like it too much, i would rather get teh 60USD gamecom 777 or pay a lil moar and get the PC350 gaming headset. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Hm, a rebranded steel series? I would have never expected that.
After getting my mouse pad from them i gotta say i expect to get more Steel series products in the future. I have heard some good things about the 5H v2 i like that Sibera a lot though. -
yea they are good, but im unsure whether they are worth 75bucks compared to the other headset out there.
ive read a couple of reviews, since my best friend also reccomended these, but its quite light on bass, which i need so its a no-go for me.
but im 100% sure, those are exactly the same as a 5H v2...look at the pics of each (alienhead vs SS sign...), look at the specs of each, and the price of each (both same @ 75USD).
