    Any suggestions?

I will be using this for video and image editing. It must have an HDMI port, which I assume is standard on all monitors in this class; however, it would be great if it has a mini-display port as well.

I'm considering some dreamcolor monitors, but I would be very interested to hear from owners whether this feature is worth the additional cost.

    Dell 2709w, u2711
    HP lp2475w, lp2480zx DC
    Eizo 24''~27''

I used to have the HP dreamcolor, but it was returned after a day due to dithering. That was about 2 years ago.
Look into Eizo monitors if you can afford one.

To be honest, no one can say which monitor is best without first knowing how it will be used, i.e. fast refresh, bright screen, power saving LEDs, viewing angle, color gamut, etc.?

The Dreamcolor has great resolution/picture/color, and viewing angle but if you don't intend to use those to their full extent, your money would be wasted. You would need content at and beyond 1080p to realize it's full potential.

I doubt you'll find a 27 inch 1080p screen. It would look pretty terrible.

You should probably look into the Apple Cinema displays. They are a bit pricey but are basically the 'industry standard' for video and image editing so you'll at least know what you see on your screen is what everyone else does.

The 27" LED model is launching in September and will boast a 2560-by-1440 pixel display. Be prepared to pay a lot for it.

I'd rather get the Dell u2711 for ~800 than the cinema display which uses the same panel(but with led/glossy surface) for a lot more money.

Overkill, unless you're a photographer or HD video editor.

The Dell Ultrasharp series is on par with the Apple Cinema stuff.

I have three of the U2410's and as an S-IPS panel its suitable for pro image/video editing.

24" seems to be great for me in a multi monitor setup its big but not too big, if I was only getting one screen then I would probably go for a 30" with the higher resolution (or save $$$ and get a good HDTV)

I kind of want one of those U2711s to use in portrait mode for internet, but $800 is a lot of money for a want.

The Dell U's have HDMI, but standard DisplayPort. May I ask why you must have an HDMI port?

U2410 is actually a H-IPS LCD, it is not S-IPS.

Also, HDMI port is available on the U2410 and U2711.

Yeah your right I knew it was an odd one out, but the important thing is that its in the IPS family and not some TN panel (ewwwww)
