I'm sure this has been discussed but I cant find the thread.
HP Pavillion DV6700 - I've bought 2 $40-50 batteries from non HP (the HP is >100)
They both are replacements for the HP part number on the original battery, fit perfectly but will not charge.
Do you have to buy 'em from HP?
    Charging overnight - no good.
    Thanks a lot - p

this seems a common issue on dell, too, here is the trick:
while the machine is up and running, plugged in (like now), flip the laptop into your chest,
dont let the screen close it wont work in sleep mode, unlatch the battery,
remove it for 5 seconds and snap it back into place. presto -hubs-

There aren't any tricks to fixing a properly functioning battery. Make sure the contacts are clean and properly aligned. If there's nothing visibly wrong with the battery, return it. 3rd party batteries vary in quality. Many meet spec, some do not.

you might have to update the bios. did it come with a disc or any instructions. sometimes your laptop won't support it. therefor updating the bios might fix it.

remember to back up your old bios before flashing to the new one.
