$500? Thats about €320. You get a brand new shiny 22" Lcd here in Europe, or even 24" if you are lucky.

How bout we split the difference then. You can buy the samsung for 350, send me 75, and I'll send you some stickers I take off the apples at the grocery store. Er, I mean cool decals.

One reason Im leaning towards the apple monitor all though I am a windows fanboy..I am a graphic designer and mouse pros that use windows end up with the cinema display for best color resaults.

I am also looking at BenQ, Mitsubishi, iiyama, Samsung, NTSC, and Acerm toss dell into the mix

Im looking Glossy screen (DARK ROOM) + highest resolution a Vostro 1500 and a Msi wind/subnotebook/or 13.3 can host.

Apple doesn't make its own LCD panels... I think LG Philips makes the panels for both Apple and Dell. So basically you are paying the extra money for the brand. I would personally go with Dell since they're cheap and still good, but since you're a graphics designer, I'm not too sure.

The Apple is so expensive cuz it uses S-IPS LCD panels, any other monitor based on these panels are in a similar price range.
Examples are the high end NEC panels, Planar, etc.
They are the absolute best in color reproduction, and a $250 TFT could not remotely compete with it.

But a nice Samsung could, or a Benq there are many brands that share the same panels, Apple does not make them they just use them.

Even other brands that use the exact same panel do not charge as much for it, my apple addicted friends over on widescreengamingforum.com will even admit that it cost more just because its apple, and some of they buy it just because it matches there apple computers.

Honestly I am thinking of just going to an electronics store choosing what looks best to my eye and then ordering it online good idea? since mic/keyboard its all about comfort... people hear the same headphones differently meaning I guess people see monitors in different ways.

I recommend poking around the web and seeing which models in your budget give the best color reproduction.
A good budget model with good color are the Dell Ultrasharp 24" models, you can get them for about $550 shipped on eBay.

Anything less than $400 for a 24" is most likely going to be a TN panel, which are nice and bright with good response, but poor for accurate colors and good angles.
Buuuuttt, if you're more of a hobbyist with photography or editing, and use your computer for fun most of the time, I dont think a cheap TN panel will hurt you much. The people most affected by poor colors are those who have to have perfect color reproduction and need to make a profit off a perfect image.
    Spend wisely.

If you are gaming or watching movies, color reproduction is only important to a point. Response time and other such things make a significant difference if you ever want to watch movies or play games.

None of these monitors are the "Best out there", but for the money I would say Dell is pretty high up there.
