    Hello
I have just purchased a Dell XPS 1730 and was wondering which backpack to get for it. I don't mind about colours or just as long as it is a backpack and can easily fit the XPS 1730 into without breaking the zips. Also I must be able to buy it in Australia.

    Thanks for your help

and yes I do know about the Dell XPS backpack but I heard they've run out of stock and I didn't buy it with my laptop. Also, funny thing, the Australian Dell website in the carry cases section doesn't have it listed.

I'd suggest that you take your laptop to the local computer stores (Circuit City, Best Buy, etc) and try out a few backpacks. If a sales person asks, just point them to the 17" monster :)D) and I'm sure they'll understand you trying them out.

I could not find any retail backpacks which would fit my huge 17" voodoo desktop replacement, so I turned to a military supply store. I found a military camp backpack which is made in the usa, which is made of a heavy canvas and rubber lined interior, for protection and waterproofing. It was a great deal, only $40.

Try an army supply store, their bound to have something which will fit it.

Try checking out the Mobile Edge Premium Backpack. There are some great reviews of it on www.MobileEdgeBlog.com.

I use this bag personally, although I don't have quite the machine you do, and it performs great. It's super durable and comfortable.

    Hope this helps.

Extending this subject to briefcases, because since I got my 1730 ive had all sorts of trouble in the UK trying to find a briefcase that it fits into without having to "bodge" it somehow, or not actually using the correct laptop compartment in the bag.

Tumi is a waste of time, none of those fit without buying a massive (in depth) one, and I wanted something more "professional" looking than a crumpler type messenger bag.

This Victorinox one fits perfectly - and the power supply and all the cables fit fine in the other compartments with space for my notebook and external drives and all my other cables and crap:

I highly recommend it for anyone struggling to find something useful to carry this beast around in.

I'm telling you, you will only find a large enough backpack in a military supply store. Just google army surplus in your area, go there and bring your lappy to test to see if it fits. My Voodoo ENVY U709 has much larger dimensions than your new dell, I know you wont find any bags for it which are cheap. The other 5 owners opted to get a TUMI bag for their U709, but it was an extra $580 because the bag is made in Germany. For a cheap extremely good bag go to a militrary supply store. Their bags are big to hold clothes boots and ammo. Their bags are also very comfortable because they are designed to hold 50-80 lbs in them.
