    Hi there

I want to order my laptop today and I would like to order the bag at the same time so that I don't have to pay two lots of delivery charges. I had basically decided on the Wegner Swissgear Synergy on the strength of Tim's review on this site. The thing worrying me is taking it on a plane. Tim sent the dimensions (fully loaded) - 40.64cm D x 35.56 W x 43.18 H. The restrictions on e.g. Virgin is 56 x 36 x 23. Should I rather look at another bag? I tried on a colleague's Targus Campus and the straps are too wide apart for my little shoulders.

The vendor I am buying from basically has a few Swissgear models a few Targus models and a Kensington that are anywhere close to my price range.

    Please, please help!

While i cannot vouch for the hardcoreness of the UK's travel service the American TSA has never given me trouble with my massive dell backpack(for a 17inch notebook) and i have flown with it over 30 flights in the last year alone...

The nominal dimensions in the review are 9"D x 14"W x 17"H which convert to 23cm x 36cm x 43cm which are within Virgin's limits. I've got a couple of Swissgear bags and those dimensions look reasonable. They are very good backs - comfortable to wear and not very heavy.

However, the backpack is flexible and if it is fully loaded then you may exceed the permitted dimensions. If need be, you temporarily put a few things in your pockets.

Thank you so much John!! I was a bit worried about the Case Base thingy, that it would make it too big, but those specs look a lot better.

I doubt Virgin is going to make a big deal over 10 cm, to be frank with you. Remember that the full-size dimensions given are when your bag is completely full, i.e. if you pumped it completely with an inert gas, it would occupy those dimensions. In reality, this not going to happen, and you could theoretically could just squish into the metal frame that they use to check the size of the bags.
