    Hey guys,

Just three months ago I bought myself Logitech's flagship G9 gaming mouse -- at the princely sum of 89 EUR (about $150 at the current going rate).

Now, it seems that during this period of normal use, I seemed to have worn a hole into the outer layer of the shell, right where you thumb sits during normal operation:

In addition to this clearly being a very unsightly blemish, it also qualifies as being Really F*cking Annoying because your thumb moves over it CONSTANTLY and distracts you from what's going on.

From a product that's marketed as a "hardcore gaming" product, I'd expect more than to trash it with 3 months WoW :p And I don't even have long fingernails or anything.

I contacted Logitech tech support and I'm going to see what they are going to say. A quick Google search on "logitech g9 peeling" reveals tons of people are having the same problem. The thing is, they don't even *sell* replacement shells for this mouse yet. If they wear out at this rate though, I'm not sure if I'd want to buy a new one four times a year.

Other than the finish/build quality, it's a fantastic mouse though, yet this is clearly a serious design flaw.

Yes, I've heard of this problem too. Apparently customers are being looked after and reports in the Logitech forums are positive on getting replacement grips.

Question while we're on the subject of the G9...

Do your LED color options actually work? I can only get blue, red, and magenta (pink) to work. I wanted green or yellow but the colors when selected via the software don't work.

Yeah, I can do yellow and green, no problem. Right now I'm rocking with purple ;) Since this mouse is clearly of epic quality (minus the finish of course, that's more green .. of the Monkey kind of quality).

Logitech's customer has been top notch to me (They replaced an MX5000 set twice for me). I don't see why they wouldn't replace it free of charge.

I know it might be out of discussion, but so far I've been satisfied with logitech products. I used to have logitech mouse (non-optic) for 4 years, no problem whatsoever. The only reason I changed it was because I was getting the optic one.

The other grip sucks, it makes my hands sweaty.

And FWIW, Logitech got back to me, presumably from an Indian call centre:

    Dear Mr. S______,

Thank you for contacting Logitech's Electronic Technical Support.

I am sorry to learn that the Layer on the Logitech G9 Laser Mouse is peeling off.

This issue you are experiencing could be hardware defect. Please return the device to your point of purchase (dealer) for an exchange during your warranty period.

If you unable to exchange the device with the point of purchase then write back to me with the following details:

    - The M/N: of the mouse (Model Number)
    - The S/N: of the mouse (Serial Number)
    - The P/N: of the mouse (Part Number)

Note: The model and part numbers for the Logitech Mouse can be located on a small tag that is attached to the USB cable.

    - Your Full Postal Address with area zip code & Daytime Telephone Number
    - Dealer Name, Address & Telephone Number
    - The reason Dealer did not exchange the product
    - Purchase Date
    - Proof of purchase. (Scan and attach the copy of the receipt as an attachment to this e-mail) make sure that the attachment is not more than 0.5mb.

If you have any additional questions regarding your product, please feel free to visit our website at http://www.logitech.com

    Kind Regards,

So what Mr Prat (lol) doesn't realize is that I cut that tag off and threw it away, so I can presumably go F*ck Myself now?

    Grrr..

Weird. Usually that information is on the bottom of the mouse.

Yeah, usually. For some reason Logitech didn't put any info on the bottom of the G9. And I'm really surprised that the P/N for the mouse will actually work for just the wideload grip.

Have to go with nocturnal310 on the razer mouse, it is really top notch IMO.

Tho, the Logitech mice aint in the bad end of the scale, previous I had the G7 and ive used both MX518 and the G5 aswell, great mice, but IMO the razer deathadder I got atm is better in almost all aspects :)

Read my latest post regarding G9 and Deathadder. I own both and like the G9 much more. Onboard profiles is another thing i forgot to mention. Macros and profiles are stored on the mouse itself so there's no software you need to install on every computer if you don't want to.

My Razer Deathadder is getting smacked around and still looks new, Razer quality just seems better.

I have an old mx500 and never had any issues with it.. I use it countless hours daily for many years now. Just call them and explain the situation.. customer service is good.

I must admit that IMO the G9 is to much, dont like the design, it is too spacy looking

Also I loved the MS3.0, the best ever gaming mouse !! Actually I still got one fully working, begin used on my desktop :)

Anyway, as said many times before, mice should be chosen from personal preferences. For me its defently the Deathadder atm :)

Well I really liked the Logitech Wave combo I had "on try". The keyboard was IMO one of the best around, being wireless and able to use it without problems 3 meters away it was nice, also the curved design fits my hands perfect! There is only one downside, the mouse, which only works on a distance of 1½ meters, which IMO is way to little for a wireless mouse and it got returned :(

I tryed out a Microsoft combo, but it was returned right away, as I wouldn't say a corded reciver thats almost fist size is cordless. I really like the logitech connector, thats just a simple small usb stick :)

Ive been wondering if I should get the MX3200 for having a wireless combo of mouse and keyboard, which IMO is kinda cool ;)
