Just wondering if anyone has made any modifications to their Dell AC Adapters to make them more portable? I did a quick search but didnt find much.

Is it possible that there is smaller aftermarket adapters out there? Apple seems to have done a relatively good job with theirs. Or perhaps someone has done a modification to make the cable neater in ur bag? One of the major issues with my laptop portability is not the laptop itself; but rather the large protruding oddly shaped wire+box accompanying it. That being said, I guess the transformer size/heating would be an issue if these things get any smaller (Im no electronics wiz but this is my assumption).

    Thoughts?

A universal adapter would be your best choice. You should b able to find a better shaped one

I dont recommend modifying AC adapters unless your an electrician

An AC adapter's size is usually a function of it's voltage and current specifications. Higher voltage and current output usually = larger adapter case.

Remember that wattage = voltage multiplied by current so a laptop that requires a heap of power (i.e. wattage) to run is typically going to need a honking big power adapter to supply said power.

So when comparing the physical size of one's laptop's AC adapter to, say, an Apple laptop's AC adapter, mind the required voltage and current draw of each laptop. IOW don't judge an AC adapter by its size.
