Ok, so I am planning to buy an audio extension cable in order to place my speakers more strategically and put my notebook away from me even when I am listening through earphone.

    What I want to ask:
    • Is there a difference of audio quality between using audio extension cable and not using?
    • Does using any audio extension cable sufficient? For example, on eBay there are sellers who sell an audio extension cable for US$70 (Sennheiser) and there also sellers who sell for US$1 (no known brand), and there are the middle ones like audio-technica for about US$8. Is it worth it to buy the really expensive one?

    Thanks. :)

If its just a 3.5mm stereo (male to female) extender, I say go for the Audio Technica.

The sound quality differences will be little to none. Just try and get one with oxygen free copper with the highest purity/quality.

But if your interested in the high quality stuff, get it from here:

Much thanks for your reply! :)

    Yes it is.

Sorry, to clarify, if I am not that much of an audiophile, I won't notice any difference in sound no matter which cable I chose? I kind of don't want to spend US$40 for a cable if I won't notice any difference when using a much cheaper cable.

I made a mistake with Audio-Technica price, apparently its US$1.7 as opposed to this unknown brand for US$0.99. Is it still an ok to go for the Audio-Technica?

Is there a difference in cable? Without a doubt. Will you be able to hear a difference if you buy the more expensive ones? Probably not

You see, when it comes to audio quality it all depends on your system. And as you know, any system is only as good as it's weakest link. So if you got top quality speakers (the single most important link), components, etc. then getting quality cable is a must.

On the other hand, if your equipment is medium to low (which is the case for 90% of us), then super expensive cable won't make any difference.

Think of it like getting high performance tire to put on your Prius. Other than looking pretty, that car will never realize their true value of the tire. When dealing with cable, just don't get the cheap stuff.
