Are there any customized hard cases for notebooks. Say like an aluminum alloy or magnesium alloy outer case with hard foam of some kind of fancy interior finish with customized fit for laptop + accessories perhaps. Sort of like you open your hard case and then you can open your laptop and type inside the hard case where it can also hold paper etc. Would be entirely impactical even on say a business trip or during travel but would be cool.

Pelican makes cases for a wide range of laptop sizes. And the best part is that you get to do the customizing with the foam and interior. They are a little on the pricey side, but with a lifetime warranty and military grade quality, I'd say it's worth every penny.

The 1080 and 1090 don't have handles, but the briefcase models do. These are serious business cases that don't need to have the hipster style of cases found at the Apple store. The night black finish is all a Pelican needs to scream professional.

oh right there were more pages.

i gota say they certainly look very enticing to get. would certainly be a cool addition to a notebook. the annoying thing might be having to change the foam or whatever support with the change of laptop but that can prob be done without much hastle.

how much do they cost anyway roughly for a standard case. the company website doesnt state.

You can either get the case with foam or with the laptop sleeve and internal organizer to store folder or other office supplies. If you go with the foam and you happen to purchase a new laptop of a different size later on, you can order another foam set from them for cheap.

Let's take my situation for example. I would purchase the 1495CC1 model for my 17 inch notebook. It typically sells for around $200 from a good Pelican vendor.

If you're looking for an aluminium case, then Zero Halliburton is an obvious choice. I have many left over from previous travels in the 90's - but honestly, I think they scream (a word I can't say on NBR, apparently) a little too much for the 00's. Not to mention the fact that plastic cases like Pelican and Hardigg (my choice when I need this sort of thing - but they have been taken over by Pelican recently) are ultimately stronger in many types of impacts.

I don't know how much is the limit for you, but there are a lot of smaller luggage makers who will accommodate custom work, and there are also sizeable numbers of metalworking / auto/aero parts shops which should be able to co-operate with such luggage makers. Moreso in the US than anywhere else, I think.

Currently I have an auto parts company and a luggage maker in Italy co-operating on a leather / carbon / titanium bag, and a company in London making me leather/carbon hardsleeves in association with a northern UK aero/auto supplier. It can be quite a lot of hassle to set up, but the end result can be worth it - since you get exactly what you want.

As I said though, it depends on how much you're thinking of. As an example, my requirements were pretty high-end - and as a result, we're talking many thousands for the bag and in the thousand for the hardsleeves. US equivalents? Should be lower, as most things are.

    are there sites for it.

I don't need a hard case per se, because I have my own carry cases that fit the laptop.

I wouldnt mind getting a hardcase tho as a toy if the price is good and the quality is good.

As a toy? How do you play with a case?

That's what I was wondering. I thought I'd be polite and not mention it...

    ...until you did.

wow are you guys that literal minded. you know what I mean. something you can have as a luxury item that you dont need in that you won't die or cant go about your daily tasks without it. obviously ive done fine without a hardcase so I dont need it. I could get one and it would be cool, so its a luxury. Its a toy. In fact a hardcase seems very impractical for my needs.

The same way one does not need a porsche, whats the point of getting one?

You were talking about how you have those custom cases can get very expensive. Nobody needs an expensive leather case to get their task done, certainly not a custom one. That in itself is a pure luxury item. And nobody should be judgemental about your choices in life of those luxury items.

I think you got trolled, useroflaptops. Of course we knew what you meant by it. It's just the way you stated it was too exploitable, so take a chill pill.

I said the exact same thing to myself when I got my Corvette; this is purely a luxury and I don't mind what others think about my decision.

One of the problems I have with these cases for everyday use is that they are designed to take a pounding and are therefore quite bulky. My IM2370's - comparable to that Pelican - are quite unwieldy in comparison to even something like the Halliburton if being carried about town.

There are a couple companies that made cases for concert equipment. They do everything full custom, so they can make you exactly what you want. There was one company that made cases with 7-ply hardwoods with aluminum backing on both sides in many different colors. The interior could be spring mounted in some of the bigger cases. There are several choices of handles and hinges too.
