Hi! I've narrowed down my search for an inexpensive but ok webcam for my laptop to these three choices:

    1. PK 710 MJ
    2. PK 760 MB
    3. PK 720 MJ

To have a general idea, they can be found here:

Would hope to hear your picks as well as the reasons why you chose them.

    Thanks!

Hmm....I've never heard of this brand. How much do they cost? I'd recommend Logitech webcams. They're well made and reliable.

Around 2/3 the price of the PRO Logitech webcams.

Now that you mentioned it, I was looking into this Logitech model prior to narrowing it down to those 3.

It's called a Logitech QuickCam Deluxe (clip-on) and it's within my budget. What do you think?

And yeah, how reliable are the clip-on mechanisms in notebooks? Do they wear off in time and am I better off with one that has a small stand.

Read the review in my signature. That might give you an idea.

Thanks! I've read it along with dedicated reviews for that particular webcam (Quickcam Deluxe).

So far, the complains run with the drivers and the software. Is it possible to get by without having to install the drivers (and just use the default XP ones) and the software (I don't need the additional features, as well as the bloat)?

    Yes and no.

Yes it is possible to run the webcam without the software. No, I do not think you could run the webcam without its drivers.

    Hope this helps!
