I have a clip-on mic I use with my headphones if I need to use voice chat in game. It works just fine for voice chat but I do not think it is ideal for recording my voice aka commentary for videos.
Im looking for something not too expensive and quality enough to be used for voice recording for videos.
Can be a stand alone microphone or a headset, chances are I need a headset to do what I want to do as any stand alone mic will be too far away or pick up all the room noise.
My old Plantronics DSP500 was absolutely perfect for this, really comfortable and mic was top notch quality. Since it was USB it acted as an independent device so I could customize what device was used for recording/listening.
The problem with the DSP500 is not Vista/7 Drivers so they went in the trash a long time ago since I will never go back to XP.

The Razer Carcharias and Plantronics GameCom 377 both have top-notch microphones. I assume their surround counterparts, the Megalodon and the 777, do as well.

headset quality not important just microphone so no need to go all out with something like a Razer. Plantronics makes some reasonably prices stuff though.
I may be better off looking at something like what a call center would use where the headphone quality is nothing special its just made for voice but has a good microphone.
It can even be one of those single speaker headsets made for a phone as long as it uses a 1/8" so that it works on PC.
I have a cheap headset for the wireless phone at work its plantronics and works well but it uses something smaller than 1/8" though there is probably an adapter somewhere out there that would convert it but not sure where to look.
Edit: found an adapter but not exactly what I need. For PC use it would need to go to 2x plugs not a single combo plug.

Plus its $9.00 thats 1/3 the price of the plantronics gamecom 377 @ $30.00 -
In that case, you might like the Plantronics .audio series. I used to have the .audio 510, it was a $15 USB headset. Sound quality was decent, and the mic was great according to everyone I spoke to in Mumble.

Would you consider a standing mic? I used a usb-based one from logitech for a week or so before I returned it. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, it had great pickup and sounded normal to everyone in the call even when I was halfway across the room. Very convenient mute button situated right on the base so you could hit it instead of fumbling for a mute slider on the wire. Just ended up getting the previously mentioned 377 instead of using separate mic and earbuds. Don't recall which model it was, but I think it ran $15~$20 off Amazon.
A good cheap microphone?
