Hey everyone. I just bought a 8gb Patriot XT. Nice flash drive...but now I want some opinions and suggestion to make the best of it. Some people told me to do it in Fat32 and 4kb allocation size. Some people told me to go with NTFS. Personally I am not a pro in this field so can some people tell me what is the different and which is better thanks. :p

    NTFS
    1) Maximum size of partition is 2 TB & more.
    2) Maximum File size is upto 16TB.
    3) File & folder Encryption is possible only in NTFS.

    FAT32
    1) Maximum size of partition is upto 2 TB.
    2) Maximum File size is upto 4 GB.
    3) File & folder Encryption is not possible.

You can go for NTFS, leaving the allocation size as default. (XP will allocate 4,096KB as default)

You can convert from FAT32 to NTFS without formatting by:

Going into Command Prompt (CMD) > and enter "convert drive letter: /fs:ntfs"

when i had an 8 gb my data, using it in NTFS slowed it down more than twice, while in FAT 32 it was blasting fast.

it depends on where will you use the thumbdrive. if you want to copy a movie which is more than 4gb then format it to ntfs. Fat 32 caps the limit to 4gb. but if you will use it to transfer smaller filles then fat 32 would be the best.
