Hi I just bought a logitech surround sound system.{5300 E 5.1 inputs from three jacks}. I was wondering if there would be any way to output 5.1 from my lap top [p 30}. If there is such a gizmo that could plug into usb. Dolby pro logic doesn't cut it any more. Thanks Mike

Uh sorry, I am such a noob. Turns out all I need is a External sound card. However I am going to pick one up. I'll post what I got and if it works.

The Creative Audigy 2 Notebook is a great notebook sound card, I recommend that. I've seen it for $75 or less, depends on the store. Those types of deals are usually online.

If you really want to get a cheapy but a goodie, check out the Philips Aurilium, a USB Soundcard, I have one, got it for under $35 shipped and its been great so far

don't get a usb sound card just get that creative audigy 2 zs for notebooks, it goes into the pc card slot. very nice and rated as creatives best soundcard for notebooks, many more features that most usb soundcards don't have like THX certification.
nice choice on speakers by the way, i have the logitech z-2300's and i couldn't be happier -
I would highly recommend the Audigy 2 ZS PC Card. You won't be disappointed. Just remember to update to the latest drivers from Creative.

"and rated as creatives best soundcard for notebooks"
If you consider the USB cards as non-notebook specific, the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook is the ONLY creative soundcard for notebooks... -

I just added the Audigy 2 ZS notebook card to my Sager 5720. It's a major improvement in the sound.

I got mine for $89 from Dell. Amazon has it for $96. Try Bizrate.com and eBay to search for prices. You can get it cheaper than $129.

Finally got the creative audigy sound card for notebooks... WOW I have a Yamaha, energy speakers surround sound system which is really nice, and I would say this is comparable. Thanks this is a great site. I don't know if I would have bought this with out your guys recommandations.

I sold my 5300, and i got the 5500 , I would say there is a great improvement in sound, plus the little controller is bigger comes on a stand and looks better. There are also hookups on the controller for a fiber optic which the audigy card has. The sound is a little richer, and a little crisper. One other thing, it has dts es, decoding. Which is kind of cool to have.

Darn you people who have PCMCIA controllers that are compatible with the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook.
My lowly Z70Va's RICOH controller is on the blacklist of controllers that are not compatible with the sound card.
BOOOOOOOOOO on RICOH and Soundblaster~!!!!
I've posted a thread in the hardware upgrades section.
Cheers,

Update:: Check the Asus section under "Having problems with my Z70Va" by pbcustom, or someone, I forget.
drak0n has this soundcard working on the RICOH controller in question.
I'm gonna be a guinea pig and try it out by purchasing one. Wish me luck~!
If it works I will upate you guys on my situation in the thread in the Asus section.
Cheers,
Mike
