I am looking to get an analog headset that uses traditional 3.5mm jacks for a connection. I noticed that some headsets are now enabled to use that connection or use a USB connection. After looking at some pictures, I noticed that most of the headsets that support both connections include an extra dongle that has two 3.5mm stereo headphone jacks at one end, and a male USB type A connection at the other end. Is there a way that I can buy just the dongle seperately? It seems like they shouldn't be brand specific because the ports are normal analog 3.5mm jacks.

    Thanks for Any Advice!

The two jacks on one end aren't both stereo 3.5mm jacks, one is a line out (stereo headphones) and one is a line in (for the microphone).

You're absolutely right about that. Is there anywhere I can get one of these adapters if I buy a headset without one? I would also build one if I knew how.

    Thanks

Your title was really confusing as its impossible to go from 3.5 connection to usb. But I'm sure if you look up usb sound card on ebay, you'll find stuff like that. I have one myself from amazon.

I don't understand why anyone would post a response to a question if they have no clue. Someone is saying the adapter can't work and I'm holding one in my hand. I too have a Plantronics and have the USB to 3.5MM adapter. Agree that they should really start selling these adapters seperately from the
headset. Did anyone find one of the adapters from another MFG sold seperately?

They are not called USB to 3.5mm adapters. They are called USB sound cards.
    Plenty of those out there.

you can get inline DAC convertors, such as this one. this is a better-than-bog-standard one, so im sure you can pick a cheaper one up off ebay.

If you get a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Go, that plugs in via USB and has a mic in and a headphone out jack at 3,5mm each.

That would do the trick as well.

And: Just along the way it increases the quality of your audio compared to the internal sondcard.

^ any soundcard outside the laptop can sound much better than whats inside...because it doesnt suffer from interference and its not integrated.
