I know this may seem wierd, because 17'' lappies are not 'portable' persay, but I still want the portable case.

Looking for any reccommendations, pretty much open to anything :)

    Thanks

of course it's portable. A bit large but I rather like the big screen wherever I go...I mean it's only about 7-8lbs.

I have one of these on order from Tom Bihn then when I am up in Seattle in March I will decide which bag to buy. Probably the Super Ego as I think that is the only bag that he makes for a 17" lappy.

I figure this will likely be the last bag I buy before I croak so what the heck why not get a gooder one... :D I sorta don't mind the cost from them because of their business practice and how he treats the folks who work for him. Kind of refreshing in today's "...just ship the jobs over to Guadula-who-the-heck-knows-istan..." way of doing business...

if ya went to 'SC you would be able to use the site and a search engine...hehehehe...JUST TEASING... :D

There are unlimited options for bags. Like Syndrome wrote you need to decide what style you want then what you want to spend. After that search around for what looks right to you. It's a pretty personal choice but also you spent a lot of money on a laptop and if you move it around a good case is a must.

I personally prefer messenger bags, and found a very nice black leather Targus bag for my 17". I can vouch for it being tough too, it goes with me every day, and doesn't have a mark on it after 6 months of heavy abuse.

    popn':

I decided on a messenger style bag myself. I have an HP NX9420. Before finding this site I had never considered a messenger style bag and always used a backpack style bag. After reading some of the opions of those who switched I was pretty much sold.

Something I did notice while shopping for a messenger bag was a number of companies simply take a standard rectangular kind of case and add a flap over the top and call it a messenger bag. That did not hit me right off until I looked around at a LOT of cases. Seriously I spent around 20hrs time online doing nothing but looking and reading.

I settled on the Tom Biihn Super Ego with their Horizontal Brain Cell hard sided sleeve that doubles are a small carry bag. Together they cost over $200 but I realized a good bag can really extend the lifetime of your laptop.

That being said, I do not think a person needs to spend that much. I saw several other brands that looked good to me. Today at Staples I saw a COOL daily around the office/house sleeve that you can use to drag your system around the house, office or take out for coffee. I started a thread about it a leetle bit ago...it's a Belkin SleeveTop case. It could fit inside a larger bag much like the sleeve/bag I got from Bihn. I just do not know if it fits a 17" system yet...

I was also able to learn a fair amount searching eBay too...
