I would go for the Deathadder especially if u hv a palm grip.. Its a simple no nonsense mouse and its easy to change ur DPI or the sensitivity on-the-fly.. I own it and its really great!

Maybe u would prefer the R.A.T. if ur into changing weights and all that.. Maybe some owners could post their feedback on the mouse

I'd have to say that the deathadder is a bit on the conservative side when it comes to design. Although the cyborg mouse looks cool, it'd look really weird pulling that out during a business meeting or something.

Logitech G700 for $55 after rebate + free shipping.

i got my Logitech G500 for under $50. it's a great alternative to the G700 if u don't need as many buttons.

I wouldn't buy either the R.A.T. 5 or the Razer DeathAdder. For $50, I'd get the Logitech G500 or G700.

I own a R.A.T. 7, and it is a pretty nice mouse. But the only reason it is nice is because it is adjustable... you lose that adjustability with the R.A.T. 5, so there is no point in buying it. I'd definitely recommend you go Logitech in your situation.

Agreed. And if you're stretching your budget already with a $50 mouse, consider the MX518 which is a perennial favorite and considered to be one of the quintessential gaming mice ever produced.

Thanks for all your suggestions, guys! If anything, I'd lean closer to the g500 and Razer Deathadder. Between the two, which one would be better? By how this topic is going, I think the LG G500 would win.

i have both the mx518 and g500. the g500 seems more of business mouse than gaming. the mx518 is alot more snappier in games, especially FPS. I never got used to the scroll and 2 side buttons on the g500. the mx518 is almost identical to the G5.

It's actually the exact opposite. The Logitech G-series is intended for gaming, as it will have higher DPI sensors, and higher USB polling rates.

My vote goes to the DeathAdder. I used one for years (technically, two of them; the original 1,800 DPI and the 3,500 DPI re-release), and it's one of the most natural shapes I've ever used. Button placement is great, and performance is everything you'd expect.

I will have to say the Deathadder was well. I went through THREE G500's, all of them fell apart two weeks in with material defects and wobbly and loose scroll wheels. Maybe I am hopelessly unlucky or something, but after getting the Deathadder (after going through THREE G9x's as well), I have to say it is just fantastic of a thing! Also, most people don't game over 3,500 dpi unless you have a heavy grip, in which you will use weights. In that case the G500 is good. However, I found my style favoring the DeathAdder.

Is that DeathAdder good for both RTS and FPS gaming?

Yes, the Razer DeathAdder is good for both RTS and FPS... it is a good all-around mouse. But is it the BEST mouse you can buy for the money? I think you can do better.

I can make arguments for why I think that someone with $50 should get a Logitech G5, G500, or MX518 instead. But that would just be my one opinion to the mix.

Here is a compiled list of crowd-sourced review scores for the most popular mice from Logitech and Razer. You will notice a distinct pattern that the Logitech mice are consistently ranked higher than the Razer mice. I don't know about you, but I would consider that to be a pretty heavy influencing factor to me. And the reason that the Razer mice are ranked lower is because of several low-score reviews complaining about reliability of Razer mice.

Does anyone have any input on the Rude Gameware Fierce Gaming mouse? I saw it on Engadget a week or two ago and it seems like a really good mouse. Link.

    Never heard of them.

Their website tries to use too much "eXtrEmE!"-style branding for me to take them seriously.

When I buy a computer mouse, I want to buy a mouse from a company in the business of selling computer peripherals, not a company in the business of selling me T-shirts and energy drinks.

Actually, they are both gaming mouses. Logitech did not introduce the "G" branding until later on. The MX510 and MX518 were both marketed as gaming devices.

    I'd got with the G700, for $55, it's a damn good deal.

I have both, and I like the G500 better. The fit of the scroll wheel is a little looser, but the ability to hyperscroll is awesome when you aren't playing games. I'm happy with the compromise since you don't lose much to gain it. I'm not sure what you mean by the MX518 being "snappier in games." Configured to the same settings with the logitech software they feel identical. The G500 is basically an MX518 with with a dual action scroll wheel, memory for your settings, adjustable weights, and a display for which dpi setting you are at. All besides the memory are things that come in handy for me every day.

On the other hand the ridiculously high dpi of the G500 is such a waste. I don't see how anybody needs more than the 1800dpi of the MX518. At 1800dpi you are already moving the mouse just over an inch for the cursor to move all the way across a 1080p screen, and just over half an inch for it to move up and down on the same screen. 1800dpi is still too sensitive for me in games even with the in-game sensitivity set all the way down.

Well said my friend, well said... :)

I do agree that the sensitivity on the G500 is a waste. The DeathAdder's 3500 dpi is already on the extreme end in terms of brute speed during cursor movement. I would only go beyond 4000 dpi if the mouse is weighed down, in that case the accuracy is pretty good per pixel, but only if it is heavy. If you don't weigh it down, the high sensitivity can make it go everywhere on the screen, even double-clicking is a pain.

I am not a fan of the loose scroll wheel though, even though hyperscroll is a nice feature, I feel like I will break the wheel very soon with my constant middle clicking heh...
