hi, i have a very weird problem.. every time i shutdown my laptop its either ill get a black screen with my keyboard lights on and fans on or it will boot to bios and say flash update failed even though i didn't connect any usb drive or mouse.. at first i thought this was caused by the latest windows 10 update so i used my backup macrium reflect image to roll back before the latest update. but still the same.. next thing i did was turn on fast start up and then my computer shuts down but we know it not a proper shutdown.. so i tried again to turn off fast start up.. and poof the problem comes back.. i tried looking into my bios and noticed when i go to advanced tab a pop up will show saying "intel icc overclocking unavailable library failed to initialized" plus in bios details my system memory is N/A.. so what i did was i turned off my laptop and disconnect my power cable and long pressed the power button for 60 seconds. i also reseated my ram. plugged the power cable back and turned on my laptop and went to bios and now its showing my system memory and when i go to advanced tab there is no more popup.. now tried shutting down my laptop again and still it will automatically boot to bios and say flashing failed.. i tried disabling hibernation from cmd using this command from @Phoenix powercfg -h off.. the problem is still there when i shutdown down it will automatically restart and go to bios saying flash failed.. with all the restart and shutdown windows 10 decided for me to update.. lol.. it just updated just now..
    my system is:
    Alienware 17 r2 970m
    Bios A06
    Windows 10 version 1607 build 14393.82

The "trigger" to start a bios update seems to be stuck. Clear the Cmos should fix it i think.

Nah it is something else. I recall one other user that had the same issue. For some reason it got stuck in bios flash mode even though no bios image was being fed to the system.

I know how to reset te CMOS on an Alienware 15R2/17R3 but not sure about the 15R1/17R2

when I turn off my computer I get 2 results. Its either a black screen with my keyboard lights on and fans on or boot to bios and flash update failed. if its a black screen all the light indicators of the HHD loading, wifi, caps lock and numlock are off. what would that mean? not the HDD because the HDD indicator is off?
