repasting cpu and gpu questions.

hi, just wanted to ask if anyone has tried repasting there cpu ang gpu on your new alienware 17 r2? was your warranty void? or did you get a dell tech support agent to do it for you to keep warranty? can ypu share a video of it please.. thank you.

 

I did it to mine when I was having a service issue. To save time, before the on-site tech arrived, I stripped my laptop down and repasted both. I'm sure it won't void anything, as long as you don't accidently screw anything up in the process. I used these two resources for disassembly, and found it to be pretty easy:

thank you for the information. its quite difficult to do a repaste then. you have to disassemble everything to get to the cpu and heatsink. damn. by the way I had a chat with dell tech support earlier from the UK. he said warranty will be void if i have to do it on my own plus they dont call a tech agent out just for a repaste. they can changed the heatsink and repaste it but not doing the repaste only. as far as i know repasting is essential to keep cpu cool and repasting is at least once a year meaning ill ask dell for a new heatsink every year to get a repaste?

 

any alienware rep can answer my question please.. to get dell to repaste my laptop every year means getting a new heatsink every year?
