    Hi every one!!!
I have replace the lcd panel on my AW 17 R4 from version 1.0 (with horizontal lines defect) to B173QTN01.2. My intention was to buy the versión 1.4 but, the EBAY seller lied to me because even though I bought version 1.4 the panel he sent me was with version 1.2 (at least he gave me back the money).
Apparently this version of the panel does not suffer from the defect of the horizontal lines, but the problem that happens to me is that when I updated the graphics card drivers to a recent version, the backlight of the lcd stops working. If I look at the screen with a flashlight I can see that the image is there, the fail is the backlighting is completely OFF. This problem does not happen with the graphics card drivers that are installed in the equipment when I restore the equipment to its factory state, so I can not rule out the panel being defective. Also if I uninstall the GTX 1080 graphics card and leave only the intel HD 520, the panel works correctly.

Could someone have any clue as to what caused the problem and how it could be solved? Thank you very much in advance...

    man, what a tricky situation.
If you try to use DDU to remove all the drivers and after install the latest version it will work?

None of that works ... I have made even a clean installation of windows 10 and then simply by installing the latest nvidia drivers and by doing this automatically the screen goes black. I'm a little desperate ... I'm afraid that in the end the only solution will be to replace the damn old monitor with its damn horizontal lines ...

Can you still buy the 1.4 panel? I suggest you try to get it.
Otherwise you are going to have to find out how to mod the driver or the firmware. I can't help with this. There are a few people on this forum who are able to mod hardware to fix problems like this, but this is the first time I've heard of a backlight not working. You're going to have to get in touch with the correct people. A solution to this should exist, but if you can't find the correct people, you need to either try the 1.4 version or go back to the ugly one.

hey mate, did you finally managed to find a solution? after a lot of research I found out that I have the same problem. The screen I ordered from ebay reports itself as AUO 1296 instead of AUO 1496 like expected. But in my situation on the sticker it says 1.4 version. So I guess there are a lot of variations. I will try to flash the edid from the AUO 1496 if anyone willing to share the file and test if I can make it work. The screen works if I install nvidia 375.70 driver. Any other newer driver will result black screen under windows and only the external screen works (hdmi, dp).

edit: someone did this already without success.
    https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1027531/geforce-drivers-refusing-replacement-laptop-screen/
The screen doesnt store the new values and reverts back to original edid after power off/on cycle.
So I guess the only solution is to get rid of this screen and get the proper one.
