It seems that Alienware is out of the party...
    or focused on the GA
    or late...
too bad it would be great in a M18

I don't buy Alienware any more.
    Their lineup is disappointing.

It's MXM format, so it's unlikely you can find replacements off-the-shelf any time soon. Price and availability of upgrades is also questionable. Conclusion: hype.

Let's see when there's something that's actually easy and affordable to upgrade into the future, and right now, AGA's the only solution. TB3 remains to be seen.

" the full desktop-class GTX 980 (with 2048 cores) will be made available in an MXM format for notebooks as well as integrated designs." http://www.anandtech.com/show/9649/nvidia-gtx-980-in-notebooks

well, according to the dedicated forum here, the AGA does not work properly with Nvidia card for drivers compatibilities reason.

I also understand that an AGA can be an interesting solution for a M13

I like the idea of desktop card in well cooled laptop, it is a more straightforward solution IMO

The only hope is in the meaning of the phrase "integrated design", and I'm not optimistic about "integrating" a desktop-sized GPU inside a notebook: that demands a thick chassis... only really considerable for the M18

Driver compatibilities can be ironed out, or ignored altogether with TB3. That's assuming TB3 doesn't come with its own set of problems.

You can count AGA as an "interesting solution" for both AW13 and 15  The desktop GPU idea is only going to be done for 17 inch laptops.

I like where this entire market is going... Screw eGPU's, let's just stick a damn desktop 980 in a laptop!

Alienware is kinda behind. Poor Alienware.

Just remember, the heatsink in both the AW15 and the AW17 are the same, it simply will not cope with full GTX 980

I almost find this hysterical... heat is already an issue in the demand for thinner designs.... and now we are talking about full-on desktop GPUs (980's no less) in some kind of luggable? Crazy market. Don't get me wrong, I would be very interested in a solution that can pull this off. Not too surprised that AW isn't in on it, they are big corporate players and thus any move is determined by market research which I can't imagine pointing to a design like this selling in large numbers. OTOH, it's nice to see at least a testing of the waters in a different direction and that enthusiasts aren't totally left out in the cold.
