I know the info im looking for is probably in the 400 page owners thread but without a way to search the thread im just gonna ask.
Thinking about trading in my HP OMEN 17T (9880H + 2080 180W) for this m15 (R1?) at costco (9750h + 2060).

The OMEN is an absolute beast but I travel for work and carrying around a massive 10 lb laptop and charger just isnt working for me. I can get by just fine with a 2060 on the road and plug into a graphics amplifier at home for some extra juice. My only concern is the CPU keeping up with whatever i throw in the amplifier.
With the omen, in "performance mode" I can set the turbo boost long in throttlestop to 60w and it will hold 4.1Ghz on all 8 cores when gaming (synthetic loads will throttle of course).
Are you guys able to hold max all core clock while gaming on the 9750h? Does dell let you turbo over 45w long term? Hoping the answer is yes, the m15 + graphics amplifier seems like a pretty sweet best of both worlds set up. Thanks for the help.

You can probably push the wattage even higher and get to 3.9Ghz+ on all cores in CB20 with LM.
Expected CB20 score 3100-3300.
HTH
BTW the CPU is H not HK, it's locked (but you wouldn't be able to fully utilise the HK without LM).
Also, make sure the return policy is solid in case you run into issues. If you get a good unit and are happy to mod it, you will be satisfied, but users occasionally report problems like bad heatsinks. Mine is not perfect either (core diffs, but only in CB20). My unit arrived with bluescreening GPU and needed to have mobo replaced onsite (basically next day though).
To conclude, your requirements sounds similar to mine except I don't game. The form factor is fantastic on the go. The screen and KB are great. Chassis build quality is solid. Battery life is less then stellar, but enough for my purposes. I haven't had a need for the AGA yet, and I'm happy with this machine. There are just 2 snags:
* sometimes it power locks to 45W and needs to be rebooted if more sustained power is needed - hibernating instead of sleeping used to resolve this, it no longer does
* some coil whine is audible when plugged in and the fans are off in a silent roomLast edited: Feb 29, 2020axalt and CptXabaras like this. -
Not sure why I put k's after everything, thanks for the correction.
Sounds like it will work well for me, and Costco's return policy is amazing so no problem there.
One final question, does the graphics amplifier work with a VR headset? Being able to bring my laptop into the living room and hook up VR for the family to play is pretty cool. Bringing the amplifier too doesn't sound fun, but I don't do it that often so I could live with it. -
The 2060 itself will also carry a lot of VR titles (my 2070MQ runs pretty much everything at max settings), and you have a separate HDMI out port at the back of the laptop itself (in addition to mini-DP), which is handy for connecting the headset.Last edited: Feb 29, 2020axalt likes this. -
Good point about the 2060. I'm sure beat saber will run fine, lol.etern4l likes this. -
m15 R1 CPU power limit?
