So originally I ordered a new AW17 R3 system from Dell which was able to overclock to 4ghz (shown in performance tab in task manager) through bios. Jumped on that outlet deal at the time and snagged another AW17 R3 with another 6820hk. However in the outlet one, I set the O/C options the same in bios (multiplier 40) and for some reason the clocks are pegged at 3.6 and won't go higher. Even with high performance mode and using throttlestop it refuses to budge beyond 3.6ghz. Anybody have any ideas on how to trouble shoot this?
Edit: Ok that was odd. The outlet laptop came with bios 1.2.3. Downloaded the latest bios as of this writing from the dell site (which was 1.2.3) and reflashed it and now O/C settings are working.

how do you safely reflash? Think mine is doing the same

Literally just downloaded the file. Closed all programs and ran the file. It'll tell you to click ok to restart eventually. Very very straight forward. Don't manually restart, the program will do it.

I'll have to check this when I get home. Thanks for mentioning it.

I'm having this issue on a brand new AW17 R3. I updated the BIOS to the latest on dell.com (1.2.7) and XTU shows the correct overclocked speeds in the profile.
However, when I actually run the benchmark, it completely refuses to go over 3.6ghz....
Any ideas?

Not trying to resurrect a dead thread, but this is happening to me and I cannot find a solution. I can fiddle and change all the OC settings in the BIOS, and they will take, but I am stuck at 3.6GHz when testing!
I tried flashing to different BIOS versions and at one point did reset the settings in the BIOS to default (which went from AHCI to RAID and screwed up the OS), but neither worked for me...
Any other suggestions? -
Re-set BIOS to default, pull the ram from the machine, remove the battery, power off. Hold down the laptop's power button for 30 seconds. That should drain it. Put the ram back in, connect the battery and see if the issue is fixed.
Note: flashing a different BIOS does NOT reset the BIOS settings. I learned this the hard way.
i7 6820HK locked to 3.6ghz no matter what?
