I'm confused, you removed a cable from the motherboard and it's complaining about that? If that's the case then it seem like you either damaged the cable somehow or didn't reconnect it properly.

hardrive is showing in bios and i can see light flickering when accesing it,i tried a usb recovery but it fails at 98%,think ive messed up the settings in bios somewhere

pulled the hardrive cable from motherboard when i was trying to add the m2ssd which is not working, ive had the day from hell on this laptop and its now an expensive brick !!

usual supposed to be an easy addon m2ssd and turns into a nightmare !

Can you list exactly the steps you took that led up to this?

What is happening now is that your system cannot find a bootable drive so it is looking to the network card to boot from there. One setting to look at in your BIOS is whether UEFI is turned on or not.

Hi,unplugged power lead to motherboard then unplugged 1tb hardrive lead also to motherboard, put the new m2 ssd in but upside down as it's the only way it would go in to slot so sticker that shows on the ssd was underneath, plugged power lead back on & left hardrive lead off & laptop would not power on,tried the power button a few times but wouldn't come on so I plugged the hardrive cable back on board and tried again but still nothing ! Took ssd back out and laptop powered back up but would not go into windows so I went into bios in a panic and mucked about abit & cant get it going now, don't know if the m2 ssd is faulty or what but I've got nothing workin now

Which m.2 drive do you have? On mine, the sticker and chips are on top.

Well i dont want to insult you. But you might installed your m2 ssd the wrong way. Also i saw your other topoc and you night ruined the screw of the backpanel which is not supposed to be removed fully. Only need to screw them loose until you hear a click. Then pull the plate up.

For an ssd to install you have to work around secure boot.

Fixed your image link (you need to link to the image file instead of the imgur page). Looks like the pins are at least intact. I'm not entirely sure how you would put it in the wrong way since it is keyed. Will the system not power on at all with the m.2 inserted?

how much m.2 ssd slots does your system have and can you take a picture of the whole back side of the laptop so I can see what model is yours.

I think its a 15R1 you could confirm by checking your CPU if it is a 4th gen and you have DDR3 low voltage Ram its an R1. The reason is because the R1 takes only sata m.2 which have two notches one on each side and its connector has a notch on the left while the R2 has the notch on the right as it accepts both.
Edit: The R1 also has two other m.2 slots which are obstructed by the Hard Drive

If your Alienware is an older model (i.e. 15R2, 15R1), and you are attempting to install an NVME (PCIE x4) ssd, then it *will not* work because the data bus only supports SATA III. Could you provide the spec for your SSD?

Not the model number of the device, I mean what is the SSD you are trying to install? I see now that you most certainly have an Alienware 15 R1, so NVME SSDs are not compatible.

You've got an R1 so your Intel 600P ssd is not compatible as it is NVME you have to buy a m.2 Sata ssd make sure it has 2 notches.

And therein lies your issue. Your SSD is incompatible, as your motherboard does not support Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) PCIe bus for storage. Return the 600p and get one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=0D9-0006-000G3

Also, the connector between the SATA HDD and the motherboard is usually pretty tricky, so I'm not surprised it's still disconnected. Remove it again, line it up carefully, and press firmly until you hear a click and it gives noticeably -- not too much pressure, but enough to re-seat it. With a different SSD and re-seating of your HDD connector your AW15 should be running just fine once more.

Yes absolutely go with the 850 EVO, the only reason I did not recommend it at first was because it is nearly double the cost in US prices,

It could be a 15 R2 as well, as the chassis is identical.
