switching iGPU/dGPU
with alienware 17 ranger mid 2013, it was FnF5 hotkey and reboot.
now, how to manually switch GPU with alienware 17 r2 2015 ?
alienware 17 r2 2015 windows 8.1, I7-4980HQ, Intel 5200 & Nvidia GTX980M Bios A04

No need, it is based on Nvidia Optimus technology.
Basically the laptop uses the integrated GPU for low demanding applications and automatically switches to the dedicated GPU for high demanding applications (typically games)scop likes this. -

i got info about optimus.
now switching from igpu to dgpu ( & reverse) is automatic and
does not need a reboot.
switch like an hybrid car -
There is just a little bug that can occurs when you start playing a game for the first time.
If you observe a very bad performance, it might be due to the fact that the dGPU is not activated for this game.
In this case right click on the desktop, go to nvidia panel and be sure that the game.exe is set for using the high perfomance GPU.
