Windows 11 announced, thinking of starting a thread to check what models are eligible for upgrade. Basically the two things stopping the upgrade are TPM2.0 module and Secure Boot.

For those who would like to do a compatibility check, head on to this site and download the PC Health Check App.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11

Feel free to share your findings here if your system is compatible. State the Model, compatibility check result and if you ran into issues, what was done to resolve it.

As for mine, I'm using a Alienware 15 R3, it has both TPM2.0 and Secure boot. I enabled both in BIOS but the combability PC health check still failed. Not sure what went wrong. Maybe those with the same year model can share your findings here.

Does the Secure Boot requirement mean there will be no dual booting Win11 and Linux?

Microsoft seriously dropped the ball here. Skylake, Kaby lake, even comet lake are the same architecture. Which part of those CPU did not meet their dumb CPU requirements?

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores on a  compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC)

Skylake and Kaby lake have doubled the cores and far higher than 1GHz and are all 64-bit CPU. TPM 2.0 and secure boot all present. What's with the hold up?

I'm already seeing an uptick in Google Trends with "Linux" as a keyword in step with the Win11 announcement.

Listening on what the ex-Microsoft security analyst say in the video...

10:45 - Is Microsoft going to keep these requirements?

I pass all the tests beside the CPU. I have a 6. gen i7-6820HQ. The 7. gen is just i minor refresh so if 7. gen is going to be supported, then there is no reason why 6. gen shouldn't be ether. What a mess. But I have a feeling things will change when closer to the final release to the public.
It says a bit that MS allows insiders to upgrade to w11 without secure boot, tpm and cpu that is not supported. So that means there will be no problem for them to remove these requirements when rolling out. I believe and hope MS will remove many of the limitations. They simply cannot force more than half of windows users to buy a new pc just for an operating system that by and large is a refinement of windows 10, can they?
Time will tell. My guess that it will be similar to what happened with W8. That also had a lot of requirements at the beginning, but was since removed. We will all know in a bit...

If they will loosen some of the harsh requirements, it will be for the 7th gen Intel and first gen AMD Ryzen. TPM 2.0 and Secure-boot will still be there. You have still Win 10 support until 2025. Maybe even longer if enough users with 6t gen Intel or older HW make a revolt. Remember the Microsoft Store and new Edge chromium browser is the same for Win 10 as for Win 11, this means they won't need push people over on next gen touch friendly OS.

True. But based on the ex-MS employe they will most likely go back on some of these requirements. I dont see them hold the harsh line to the end, with that in mind all the MS users who have incompatible hardware. Over 50% will not buy new pc's just to update to w11.
Anyway. I will most likely have upgraded my AW17R3 to a x17 r2/3/4 og perhaps the Area-51M r3/4 when w10 has reached end of support in 2025. Best case senario is ths my AW17R3 can run w11 and be a second system.

On my m15 r2, It shows as it's compatible but tells me I have to wait for my que. Thank you Microsoft for not messing with my laptop at a random night. I prefer to wait some people to become the victim and shows Microsoft how messy things really are.

Have anyone tried to update their Alienware 17R3 or 15R2 to W11?
If so, what are your experience any problems with drivers, programs, features etc.?
Also interested in the method used to upgrade. I find this the easiest and most problemfree:

Find it hard to dump my perfectly running AW17R3 just for W11. So if things go south I'll stay on W10 to 2025 and then upgrade to a X17R2-5 (or the rev that's out in 2025/2026).
