Hello, you have not quite specified the model of the laptop, there were at least four version of Alienware m15x, and the early ones worked with DDR2. If you have i7 \ i5 CPU then it is DDR3 and sure will work fine, but since there are only two slots, they will have to replace your current RAM.
BTW do you need more than 8Gb for some specific tasks? For most application 16Gb is not going make any boost of perfomance, since they usually use less than 5-6Gb :)
So for the same price I would suggest getting an SSD instead, if it is not there already.))

He most likely has the AW15 (2015) given that he was just looking through the AW15 owner's lounge.
hslayer, the RAM sticks should work with the AW15.
But as MooMilk said, is there a reason you need 16 GB of RAM?

Yes that works, 1866mhz may also be nice if you ever use the IGP for gaming on the go.

Haven't seen any of the new ones handling anything that's not DDR3L 1600mhz. I've seen some not posting even with regular DDR3 1600mhz.

    It's a good thing that 1866mhz 1.35v and 2133mhz 1.35V sets exist then ;) (Currently running 2133mhz 1.35v ram with my 4870HQ).

    Sweet! !

I know they do. We just don't recommend to use anything beyond that as it hasn't been added to the official upgrades. To be honest, yours is the 1st one I see running with 2.133mhz DDR3 1.35v.

@OP, you could use that then. It's just not officially supported by Alienware.

I've yet to see a 4xxx series cpu not manage 1866mhz. There was one 3xxx series cpu i saw that could not. I don't suggest 2133mhz as that is pushing things further but 1866mhz gives a nice boost to haswell.

Are there stability problems with the Haswell CPUs and 2133 MHz CPUs? I did use 2133 MHz with my i7-3740QM when it lived, and it was stable after a few days after installing.

It's not guaranteed by intel, so it's the silicon lottery as to if your imc will do it.

I guess I got lucky then.
In your opinion, do you think either 1866 and or 2133 MHz will work on Broadwell-U CPUs (such as those in the AW13)?
