So I'm trying to get an Alienware and have two options: Alienware 13 r3 oled and Alienware 15 r3 4k.

Has anyone seen both and have on idea on which looks better?

    Thanks for reading.

The oled does look better, but it's likely to get dead pixels much faster than the 4k panel.

Having had multiple Samsung galaxy phones and a Vita, OLED is just godly. I can only imagine how good it looks on a 13" panel. I rather have OLED then 4k honestly.

I've not used the 15 R3's 4K display but based on other ones I've used I would choose the OLED.

Does it seem to produce a more clearer image?

How does OLED seem to compare to other types of screen in your opinion?

OLED is over saturated, the blacks are very deep and nice and the image is really colorful, but the color representation is terrible. Once you have an OLED you NEED to calibrate it, it's mandatory. It's as I said, OLED is better than the standard LED screen u're used to see, but it does like to break fairly easy.

If you mind dead pixels a lot and want something that lasts really long, then go for something that has a great screen and calibrate it, once you did that it looks very good as well. You honestly won't notice that much of a difference when for example using a good calibrated panel for 1 day, then sleep 1 night and then use a calibrated OLED screen, you will notice that the colors are different, but you won't really consider either worse or better, just different.

Because we should always make sweeping statements based on a sample set of one...
I wouldn't call dead/stuck pixels unusual and Alienware has a one-faulty-pixel-is-one-too-many policy so if you do encounter an issue isn't not hard to get a new unit or a panel replacement.

I mainly use OLED for watching anime and reading manga so over saturation actually looks very nice. The deep blacks also make manga pop and for live action movies I don't feel bothered by the saturation one bit. Also on the topic of burn in and dead pixels I gotta say my galaxy s4 that I have had since launch has had no burn in from what I could tell but the phone did die recently. I used it as a dedicated hub to monitor my security cameras nearly 24/7 and there was no visible burn in and not 1 single dead pixel. I think the dead pixel problem on the R3s may be a isolated case or something that plagues larger OLED displays.

Do as much research on the R3 OLED display as possible and weigh the pros and see if the risk is high on the R3 OLED. Probably wanna buy extended warranty as well.

That's a good point with black levels in movies and manga. Thanks for the input.

That's great to know, I didn't know they had such a good dead pixel policy. Thanks.

The 4k lcd is no exception to dead pixels as i have 1 dead/light pixel on my r2 4k screen. So lcd or oled both could have them, i havent used an oled laptop but i can say the sharp panel in mine is pretty crisp and great colors.

OLED looks better, but dead pixels annoy me way to much. If you don't mind the occasional dead pixel go with oled. Personally I went with the 4k, its a great screen, but the colors arent quite as defined.

I was trying to build my 15 r3 on Dell's website and I couldn't get the 4k panel option with anything other than the locked hq gpu. Is the uhd 4k panel not available with the unlocked hk cpu?

I've come across a few alienware 15 with 4k and hk cpus online, so i believe they are available. Fyi though, i tried the 4k screens and they have an issue where there's a bit of 'noise' where you can see tints/relections of blue green yellow on each pixel. It looks pretty ugly up close or up to about half a foot ish. (at least for me it did) It doesn't matter if you look at it from afar, but then you wouldn't be feeling a difference between 4k and 1080p at that distance.
