I'm torn between the 15 inch alienware and the 17 inch, Both will have a 970m and I'm not sure which to pick. Any comments between the two?

17 hands down. The 15 inch LCD panel is undesirable as its not as bright as people think it should be and many people swap them out for a brighter screen.
The LG ones that come with the 17 are on point. The 17R3 solid at this point. Im happy.

I'd second that about the screen unless you need to transport it in like a backpack where the 15" makes more sense. If its just the screen though there are plenty of other laptops you can look at with 970m gpus (and even gsync) at 15", but I get it if you want an Alienware in all its flashy glory.

Clevo P650RE3, Gigabyte P35W, Gigabyte P55W, MSI GS60, MSI GE62, Aorus X3, Razer Blade, and Asus G751 are all models I can think of off of the top of my head. There are more I'm sure, but I would look at the Clevo P650RE, and MSI options most likely. The Aorus and Razer blade tend to be expensive (but exceptional), and Asus gaming laptops aren't great.

i like the 15 because of its size.

The 17 offers nothing in addition other than a bigger footprint on your desk - and a subwoofer i think - other than that they're the exact same hardware.

Yeah the screen is a strange one from dell but most of the time i'm docked on the QHD monitor for gaming and its fine for other purposes when i'm using the laptop.

I went for 15 simply because the 17 has zero additoinal functionality other than its just bigger and heavier.

The great thing about the 17 is that is much less bulkier and heavier then I expected.
Its not like back in the "M" days. Where the M17X was more noticeably bigger and heavier.
Like nick I was too all about the 15" and decided to take a leap and grab a 17 and I must say I'm glad I did.
It is bigger but it doesn't inconvenience me any different then the 15. I don't notice a weight difference and the same goes for the size.
I actually welcome extra real estate. Plus again the panels in the 17 are indeed nice. :)

Steer clear of Gigabyte and Aorus. Bad build quality pieces of crap.

We all have different tastes, I would indeed like a bigger 17 inch if i'm for example laying in bed on the laptop, but any other time it is mobile i appreciate 15 inch and would not want this any bigger.

I also do a lot of traveling (international) and the size increase with no functionality or performance benefits didnt justify the purchase, especially when it is docked in my home office with the lid closed.

Aorus doesn't work well, but their concepts are unique. They do have the smallest 970m notebook but yeah I would avoid them, and Gigabyte overheats too much.

A lot of factors to consider, but some off the top of my head:

    Reasons FOR 17"

Are you planning on using the screen predominately? If Yes, Go 17"

Do you wish for a bit better airflow? If Yes, Go 17"

Do you wish for a better screen panel without the hassle of swapping etc? If Yes, go 17"

    Reasons for 15"..

Are you planning on using it on the go? Do you have an external screen you are mainly going to use? If Yes, Go 15"

Would you like to save some cash? If Yes, Go 15" Also, with the saved cashed you can put the money towards getting an AGA.

Personally, I am using the 15". I take it to work with me every day, and when I get home I basically dock it by plugging in an external mouse, keyboard, and monitor. Been doing this for the past year+.

My 17" 4K on the R3 is stunning. 100% RGB and 100% Adobe RGB, plenty bright enough, must be the best 4k 17" on the market, if not then one of the top 3.
