    What is VCCIN? It solved my throttling!

    Hello everyone,
    So I've been tinkering with Throttlestop in order to get rid of throttling on my AW17r2 and I've just came up with some settings in Throttlestop which lets me OC both CPU and GPU with a 180W adapter. Here is what I did:
    I did an undervolt to core and cache voltages by 65 mV's and I set the VCCIN value to 1.9072, I set the multipliers to 36x for all cores, finally I disabled BD PROCHOT to get rid of thermal throttling. Now my CPU frequency hovers between 3598-3602 MHz during The Witcher 3 gameplay. I wanted to know my limits so I also did a OC to GPU by 120/200. I have been playing The Witcher 3 for an hour now and I was able to keep my clocks for the whole gameplay. This is all using the 180W adapter and A06 BIOS. Now I get constant 60 fps in witcher 3! I really want to thank you @unclewebb for providing a great piece of software.

    Another thing I should mention is that when I control fans via HWiNFO, I get throttled to 2.6GHz for a short duration, Throttlestop reports TDP throttling for that time interval.

    As the title mentions, what I wanted to ask is the VCCIN. What is it? I wasn't able to find clear info online. Also a second question, would I damage a component by doing OC with 180W adapter? I keep an eye on temperatures so I am careful not to burn them but I was wondering if I damage something with the insufficient adapter.

    Try doing a Google search for Haswell Input Voltage. Different motherboard manufacturers have slightly different names for this voltage but it is basically the source voltage from which all other parts of the CPU get their voltage from. On desktop CPUs that are significantly overclocked, I have heard that setting the input voltage about 0.6V higher than the CPU core voltage is appropriate. 1.9072V seems like a reasonable and safe value for Haswell VCCIN. Default for my 4700MQ is somewhere around 1.80V. I get a BSOD at about 1.775V.

    What I found during testing is that there seems to be a bug within these CPUs. Setting VCCIN a little on the high side tricks the CPU. Intel CPUs do not measure actual power consumption. They calculate an approximate power consumption value internally and then they use this data to control the Turbo Boost feature. I found that a high VCCIN setting results in less reported power consumption. If the CPU thinks it is using less power, more turbo boost will be available so you will get less turbo throttling. A neat trick but it would be wise not to get too carried away. The maximum allowed setting for my 4700MQ is 2.30V but I would not want to be running VCCIN that high 24/7. Handy for a couple of quick benches though.

    An overclock is either going to work reliably or not work reliably. If a power adapter cannot supply enough power, you might lose stability or the power adapter might simply trip so it will no longer be charging. A sudden change at full load to battery power is usually not a good thing to do to a laptop battery. When a power adapter trips, unplugging it and then plugging it back in should reset it.

    No one here is going to be able to accurately predict what might happen to your laptop or your power adapter. If you are not stable or you are worried that your power adapter is marginal, get a new one with a higher capacity.

    You are most welcome. It always makes me feel good to hear that another user is getting a little more performance out of his laptop with the help of ThrottleStop. I wish more users knew about this program. Once you know what you are doing, it is a simple solution for a lot of laptop throttling problems.

    @unclewebb @orancanoren

    I have with my AW15 R1 - 4710HQ throttling to 1,8 GHz.

    Do you know a VCCIN setting for my CPU to try solving the issue? (if i see it correct you have a 4720HQ)...

    under Point 4 in your other thread about the problem, you wrote that you also raised your Current Limit to 100 amps from 85 - makes this your CPU / GPU hotter?

    thanks

    i found that the throttling problem on this systems is the PCH temperature ... that is arround 90-100°C when you are playing. I am going to do a mod to conect the PCH to the gpu heatsink and show the difference

    this not mean that is safe ... 100°C for any chip on this motherboard is dangerous

    but yes... looks like is working

    i need to test it tomorrow with more patient and more time ( like 2 hours of battlefield 4 on ultra )

    Hey bro, i saw your dedicated thread for pch mod, can you please tell me that there you have stated that a simple thermal pad of 2 mm thickness can also do the job well. Can you please tell me that it will fix the throttling issues permanently? Will the thermal pad not liquidify overtime?

    no, in this moment i have a thermal pad ... until the new thermal pad arrive and the copper tape to do the next mod. the thermal pad help a lot ... ( a good one ) fujipoly 2mm or Artic thermal pad 6W/mk .. but for example after 1,5 hours of gaming, i have 2 minutes of throttling down. and come back to normal ... but i want to fix the problem entirelly making an active cooling to the pch, not passive like it is

    you need to move some things ... i am going to take photos .. to make it easy. I have an i7 4710hq only use the same values if you have the same cpu as me.

    i am using an Elevated Program Shortcut to auto start throllstop on windows boot, i called it "stop"

    this is to give you an idea how to do it ... read this thread to find out how to do it

    @Dashing_97

    @Dashing_97 i forgot to say that i unziped throllstop and put it on program files ... you can put it where you want. this is needed to make the auto start at boot
