I am replacing my 17xR3 and just ordered a 17 R3 with the 1tb PCIe SSD drive. Can anyone tell me what brand and model of drive is likely to come with it?

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm finding all sorts of different read/write speeds on that model.

Because it depends the size of the SSD. The more memory chips it has, the faster it is. It is like an internal raid 0.

Thanks. I was referring to the 1tb in particular. I've seen a wide range of numbers on several searches. Anywhere from 650 to 1600 sequential reads. I have only found official numbers of 1050 for the 512gb version.

OP you may want to opt for a 950 Pro instead. It is much faster than the PM951, although I do see you're looking at the 1TB....it should be just around the corner.SM961 as well...

As others have said, it's generally a Samsung PM951 drive. Until the SM961 drives come out, it's one of the few 1TB NVMe drives out there.

I've got a 1TB SSD coming in my 17 R3, which is still sitting in manufacturing. I can confirm the exact model when it arrives in a week or two.

Thanks everyone for the information. I opted to do the 1tb upgrade through Dell even though I know the 950 pro would have been a faster choice. I really need the space more than the speed. I use it mostly for my photography and fill up space quickly.

I'm coming from a 850 evo in my 17xR3 that just died so any of these drives is going to be a vast improvement I'm guessing. It would be too much to hope they start putting the 961 in but one can wish

I have a 1 TB PM951 that came with my 17 R3. My best advise to you is to go with the 950 Pro or wait for 961. I initially bought the 951 with the system so it would be covered under my extended warranty but ended up regretting that and wish I bought one of the faster units that came out shortly after I purchased my laptop

I'm so eager and waiting for the 961...hurry hurry Samsung. Our wallets are waiting...

I think it should be available in mid August.

On a side note, how about that newly released 4TB Samsung EVO 2.5" .... enticing...

4 TB consumer SSD is bae. Samsung have a 16 Tb SSD on the business side. I don't have any in my environment that I support but I can dream!
