    Hello everybody,

My new Alienware 17 R3 4K i76850k gtx980m 4gb laptop is on its way and I need to buy a TV to hook it up to, so I can watch movies, youtube and try some 4k gaming (although that will be done most likely at later date with the graphics amplifier and graphics card).

So what do I need to buy? 4K? how many Mhz? What input sockets do I need?

This will be my main TV in the apartment, so I'm looking around 55" or higher?

I don't want to really spend more than $3000 on it.

I don't want to spend money on a tv and find out i got one that doesnt have the right hdmi whatever.

I have heard that bigger TV's are not so good for gaming because of display and input lag? I may be wrong so look into it. I saw a video on youtube but that may not apply to newer TV's?

You need an HDMI port and 4K capability. Make sure to ask about the lag though, that's definitely an issue if you want to do gaming on it. Some of them can be configured (calibrated).

Should I connect my laptop to the TV via HDMI or the display port?

this is still an issue on many tvs. 4k models are horrible now because the processing of the image takes more time. 50ms and more input lag is not uncommon.

No just gaming. The images will come with a delay similar to lag in an online game so everything you see happened a few milliseconds ago, noticeable in competitive online gaming.
