This is the 3rd Alienware 13 system I have but it suddenly started acting up.

First off, spec wise it's the i7 7700HQ with the GTX1060 6GB and 16GB RAM. I've installed a 2nd m.2 Sata drive in this machine myself.

My normal setup is at home with an external monitor connected to the laptop over HDMI. No hiccups, temps are really, really good. I have cloned the windows install from the previous system onto this one since I didn't want to lose any files and go through the hassle of setting everything back up again.

I'm now at an airport however and it's the first time I've tried playing without an external monitor hooked up and getting game crashes with every game (Tomb Raider, America's Army, GTA:V, Civ:VI) and even managed to get a BSOD with the error Video_TRD_Failure.

I'm checking the temps here and nothing seems to be wrong. CPU gets a max 83C without throttling without undervolt and around 77C max with an undervolt.

    The GPU gets 76C max
Both drives stay around 50C and 55C respectively
PCH only gets up to 78.5C (trust me, I've had much worse on previous systems).

I can't figure out what the issue is here. A restart doesn't seem to fix it. It just randomly craps out after a short while of gaming.

Back home I used to be able to play hours on end without any issues so this is really baffling me. The only thing I did was shut it down and put it in my carry-on for a 1hr flight. No drops or anything.

Anyone else experience this issue or know how to fix it? All I can find is for older systems and that seems to be caused by hardware failure of the gpus.

I just updated my Nvidia driver to see if that fixes it but nope. I installed 388.71, had a previous 388 version before. Was playing America's Army when my screen started to freeze, it would alt+tab out by itself and get back into the game again. Sound also had that freezing sound. Then suddenly screen went black and the system restarted fresh. No BSOD, nothing.

In Event Viewer it just says Event 41, Kernel Power. Basically shut down without properly shutting Windows down. I'll try your Intel driver to see if that changes things. Maybe it's the newest Bios (1.2.3)?

Edit: Holy cow, so I dug a bit further in event viewer and I'm getting this error: The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report.

This is being reported for all (8) processor cores/threads.

seems like your motherboard is faulty...
Event 41 is a completely normal behaviour with power locked processors. That just says that the processor can´t consume more power than the 45 watts. correct me if i´m wrong

There is a 10% chance for that.
@Drinky Run ePSA test for all components and see if it passes everything.

I ran the test and it came out all fine. I tried installing the Intel Graphics driver earlier but it said that I didn't have an intel GPU. Super weird, but eventually I managed to fix it by uninstalling the drivers completely from device manager and reinstalling the new drivers.

One thing I also noticed. If you update your Bios to Version 1.2.3 you CANNOT downgrade the Bios anymore. This BIOS for some reason locks you out of any downgrades. Probably has something to do with the security fixes it employs.

FIrst of all, make sure that windows update isnt overwriting your drivers with WU drivers. Use DDU to unisntall all video drivers. After that reinstall the intel drivers and Nvidia drivers.

Issue was gone, but now back again. Very confusing. If I alt+tab out of the game instantly when it happens the game crashes but Windows remains running. If I don't, then Windows crashes entirely and just reboots my system. Super strange behaviour, especially since there is no heat issue.
