I realize I bought the low end ANW17 R2 from my local Fry's. That being said, I looked at the ultra expensive versions online and saw that you could have a touch screen monitor for this laptop. I've been a Windows 8 user since it was in Beta...I actually like the touch screen features on laptops and tablets.

Is there a way to purchase and upgrade to the touch screen, is the MB on this computer compatible? Or, do I just settle with the great IPS I already have built in?

Are you still in time to return the laptop and buy a new one?

nah, too much of a hassle. If it needs a new MB....nope, not worth it. It was just a curiousity question. I love the screen I have. GF was watching me game yesterday for a few seconds and even said....wow, over your old computer, this screen is amazing.

The screen is great, but yes in order to change it to a touchscreen you'd need to replace the whole motherboard.

If I may ask, if a consumer got an Alienware touchscreen laptop, would he be able to swap out the panel for any touchscreen of the right size (say I wanted to take the 1800p touchscreen from the XPS 13 or one of its competitors)?
